JS20S with Dimarzio's (with Pic)

Well I'm just so glad I made the switch over in my JS20S. It went from mediocre tone with the stock AH1&2 pickups. To full on tone monster with the Dimarzio Super Distortion(Bridge) and Tone Zone(neck) I installed.

I've read about guys using a Tone Zone in the neck, so I figured I'd give it a whirl and see what the results would be. I love it, can't believe the tonal qualities this guitar now has. The coil-tap works phenomenal as well. Really cleans it up when you want to cut the power down and a run a very cool/mellow tone.

I have to say I love just about all the Dimarzio pups I've tried. With my swirled Jems I went all Evolutions in one, and the other is a FRED and PAF Pro. My RG7620 has the original Blaze pups(which I absolutely adore) and all of my Strats have HS3's. So with my JS20S, I figured to be different(was going to go Mo Joe and PAF Joe) and install a Super Distortion and Tone Zone. I love it and glad I did it.

What pickup combos(if any) in your JS guitars have you guys experimented with and got good results???

thanks man, no pics yet but it's really nothing impressive. Just some new pick-ups in a guitar. They are black, so no frills.

yeah give it a shot man, I took the plunge and I'm glad I went with the mix I did. Given that both are technically "bridge" pick-ups the Tone Zone is excellent as a "neck" pickup.

Depending on what your amp settings are, I ended up lowering the Tone Zone just a bit, as it was a bit bassy. But lowering it down away from the strings did help alot. And I just rolled my "bass" back a notch or so.

Re: JS20S with Dimarzio's

well that's good man, glad they sound great. Always nice when you get a set of pick-ups and they just flat work in the guitar you installed them in. So far every set of pups I've installed I've been pleased with. But I've spent alot of time on Dimarzio's website listening to all the sound clips of the different pups and so forth. I think if you trust your ears, you'll always get good pups.

O.k. here you go

Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and Tone Zone in the neck. And yeah I screwed up and got a regular spaced Super Distortion(should have got F-spaced) however it still works and sounds amazing. Been recording with this guitar alot actually.

oh yeah, I also switch out all of the hardware and pickup holders to black. Just need to get a new bridge and it will have all black hardware.

The only problem with sound clips on the websites, is they tend to use $10,000 set-ups to get their tone. But yeah i guess you get a pretty good idea of what type of tone you can get.

I agree, I used the sound clips at Dimarzio's webiste as mainly a benchmark for the tonal qualities of the pups. Like I say, if you really sit down and let your ears do the work. You'll be able to tell the distinct differences between each pup. Which is all I did, I listened to the pups that were rated as being in my sort of tone range and then let my ears do the rest. It's purely in your mind and ears HAHA.
