Just got me a rare one! uv that is.

Ok, so maybe not really rare, but still the shortest production run on the UV its the UV7bk 1997 the all black one. itsa in excellent condition with just a few scabs that i'll get my luthier to sort out. i gues Ibanez were looking more towards giving the bands like korn and alike something top end and seven string that they could play without ridicule from a 'viaesque' looking guitar.

very smart and as usual sounds just great.
intertingly enough the neck plate does not have the universe logo but is just black with the serial number. (which again is an odd ball on the dating side as usual)
anyone else got one of these? may we can verify the details?

pics to come soon.

Yep, I bought one in 97. It was my first UV & the only 7-string available at the time in production. Then 6 months after I bought it, Ibanez introduces the RG7 line. Aaargh! I was kinda pissed that I spent $1400 for an additional middle pickup & pickguard when I could've bought an RG7620BK for much cheaper & still have all the features.

The all-black UV is cool & all, but it's just a slightly modified RG7620BK with a higher price.

I disagree...those RGs can't come close to any Universe. Even if it's the plainest UV known to man...

the UV777PBK is my holy grail, especially after playing one at the london guitar show.

I never hated the '97 version but it's growing on me. IMO, more realistically, it's more llike what should be called an RG-7560 or 567 or something like that. Cosmetically, I think white pickups and knobs woulld be rather nice, though.

Expect all BKS's to have those 250K/260K number only plates

the 777pbk is undoubtably the best put together and technically advanced of the line, but i just wish a choice was offered on colours and finishes.

Most likely an emergency need for plates and they weren't going to order many as the PBK was most likely already in the works.
