Just played an SK - At GC for $999????

Well, I played a Jem777SK (I think that's the proper coding) and I must say, it was a nice guitar. However, it was selling for $999, and it was badly battered, with the obligatory neck joint crack, extremely worn fretboard (which looks even worse with the maple board) chips, scratches, cracks everywhere. And of course the paint was faded to an almost orangish color.

It's a shame, for $450-500 it might be worth it.

That seems typical of GC's used pricing on Jems. The one in Hollywood has an LNG #8 (in fair condition) for only $2650. :rotf:

Polaris, you must be talking about the SK at GC in Villa Park, IL. I played that one quite a while ago. At $999, I'm not suprised that it's still there. It is a sweet playing axe, but it's current condition warrants a much cheaper price. I told them that it was only worth about $500-$600 max, and the most I would give them was $450.

Psst.... they will "let it go" for $800, tax included.

hahaha that's the one!! Actually, they have 2 now, the other one is equally as expenive, and equally as beat.

Man I keep forgetting that there's a guy on here that lives 20 minutes from me.

If I remember correctly, you're in Streamwood, right? That's practically right down the street from me. You were selling a DNA for a friend, did you ever sell it? So, GC has two beat-up pinkies now? They'll both be hanging there for a while at those prices. I have a DY that is in way better shape and I can't even dream of accepting $999 without feeling completely guilty. I was told that the first SK was acquired for $300 on a trade. They're trying to triple their money, which is ridiculous.

Yeah, I did end up selling that DNA, for like $3500 I think it was. I did live in Streamwood, but I got married this past Dec. and moved to Schaumburg.

She works in Oakbrook, so if I drive her to work, I stop by GC to use(abuse) their stuff.

Villa Park also has a USRG30 that they claim is new, that they're trying to get $1200 for. The last time I was there, it was near the top of the wall.

They also had what looked to be a RG3220, which I think is the same as the 3120, but with a quilt. I didn't even bother asking after the Jem and the USRG.

I've seen both Jems. *I work 5 min from the store. *The 1st one's been there since before Christmas. *The best thing to be said about them is they're not very faded. *I got the same "we'll let it go for $800 story" *Sure...

It seems that there are quite a few of us Jemsiters in the west suburban Chicago area. Hmmm, maybe Jemfest could be held in Chicago one year. Or perhaps we can all get together for a Jem jam? I've seen that particular USRG30, and if I remember correctly, it had nicks, scratches, and a stress crack. I have'nt been to the downtown or southside GC's in quite a while. But in my own personal opinion, I feel that the Villa Park GC has more damaged "NEW" guitars than anywhere else.

Also, I realize this may not be the appropiate area to say this but, I'm a licensed Real Estate agent. So, if any of you local guys are looking for a house or condo..... I'm your man!!! *--rvj

Well, I'm not a Jem player, but I do have an RG421 and an SC420. Jemfest in Chicago, or mini-Jemfest, I'm all for it!

I was in GC a few days ago and saw the other SK. I noticed the difference on the fretboards. The '87 is unfinished and the other, which may have been a '88, has a glossy fretboard. What's up with that?

holy crapp!thats an insult to charge more than 500.00 for a project guitar.I could hook you up with a 2nd year 77fp for 750.00 that has minimal scars and still looks good.

Geez! At the price GC has it for, the color will fade to a Shocking Peach before it's sold!
