Keep your guitar in a case or not....

Hi

I've got a 1991 Universe MC (UV77MC - yeah *the* only universe to get ) and I keep it hung on my wall. I play it very regularly and it gets used. I don't treat it like a museum piece but I do look after it...

So my question is do owners of rare or valuable guitars play them or are they all secretly locked away all the time only coming out to play every now and then??

It's worth more to me played and enjoyed and I get to look at it when I watch TV too!

Re: Keep your guitar in a case or not....

It's a guitar, it's meant to be used as such. It can be cared for quite well but still be played regularly. It seems silly to me to buy a guitar and never look at it, let alone play it. Now, if you're buying a collectible with the intention of selling it down the road at a profit, then it may be just that, a collectible, and not really a guitar any more for all intents and purposes.

I'm super protective of my equipment. Every time I use it, I wipe it then lock it up. Since I live on a small island the climate is pretty humid so I think it would be better than leaving it on display... I keep an older (fully functional) Yamaha which I occasionally play on display however...

It actually hurts my migraines to continually go through the trouble of putting them in cases and taking them out since I have the urge to play so much. Soooo out lol

Re: Keep your guitar in a case or not....

When I got my main guitar I kept it in the case for a year, got sick of getting my case out.
Wall seemed too dangerous, so did a single stand so I bought a stand for 8 guitars.

Works fine, it's next to my desk so always close.

Things like swirls and anniversary guitars live in their cases, "bog standard" RGs live on the spare bed, in my son's room, in the office...

I usually keep my guitars in the case, minus the acoustic, that's near to the PC. nothing rare or valuable though

Show em off!!!!

I keep all my guitars on display, expensive or not. It encourages me to play more and I love even just catching a glimpse of them as I walk past the room. Who cares if they get a bit worn or dinged. Enjoy them every second you can. No matter how many rare and wonderful guitars you have, the fact remains you're only a caretaker for them in this life.

Get the most out of your limited time with them.........you can't take them with you!

I built a hanger for mine, I like to display them, but they're mostly pointy guitars that won't sit on stands.

Re: Keep your guitar in a case or not....

All of my guitars stay in cases as I prefer not to expose them to the elements. I have problem popping open case to play one whenever I want and if I want to see them, I have pictures.

Re: Keep your guitar in a case or not....

If you play it, display it.

Guitars are too much of a PITA to take in and out of the case everytime you want to play them.
