konx

hi,

i understand why vai has "evo" and "flo" and "evo II" etc. But why does he have the word KONX on his guitars. I understand that he probrably has the masking tape there so that when he does divebombs, the high e string doesnt get caught on the pickup. But why KONX?

Cheers

Re: konx

According to the All About EVO section of Steve's site:

"The word “KONX” is an ancient alchemist mantra word that is believed to have originated with Aleister Crowley. It’s meant to be used in various incantations that are supposed to invoke disembodied entities from the abyss to materialize into the physical.

Please don’t try that at home..."

Re: konx

I dont understand most of the words in there

How can anything ancient have originated with Crowley, given that he only died in the mid 20th century?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konx_om_Pax
'Konx Om Pax: Essays in Light is a publication by British occultist Aleister Crowley, first published in 1907. The name Konx Om Pax is a phrase purportedly used in the Eleusinian Mysteries. Its companion is Khabs Am Pekht, which in the Egyptian language means roughly "Light in extension" or "Light rushing out in a single ray", used pointedly in the Golden Dawn Vernal and Autumnal Equinox ceremonies.

Re: konx

Actually KONX is the sound it makes when Vai shred so hard he gets his high e string stuck under the edge of the neck pickup. If your action is low enough and you are shredding hard enough this will happen, used to happen on my UV all the time.

Re: konx

Maybe it's a book that Vai had to study for a college class that was perhaps influential. Just a wild ass guess.

But I could be wrong.

Re: konx

Wasn't that a funky pickup that Vai's tech tossed in a dumpster and Vai made the tour turn around and go dumpster diving at the venue for it?

thought so:

Re: konx

KONX :- "Light, Rushing outin a single ray"
Without know that at the time I Branded the magnetic metal Picks that I make KONX &
"Light rushing out in a single ray" more accurately described the audible tonal effect this application of very strong magnets produces.
