The Last Jem - So whats going to happen now..

How much do you think Jems will go up or down in value now that the last one is out?

Announcment:

Steve Retires the Jem
Quote:
after 20 years of playing and having a hand in the production of the Ibanez Jem model guitar Steve has decided to close the door on it's design finishing up with the Blue Jem Model Jem7VSBL. This comes as no surprise as his contract has long since expired with the Ibanez Factory and now Steve plans to concentrate more on making music and not Guitars. With orders of the new Jem falling short of expectations Ibanez has agreed to limit the production number to 777 thus closing out the era of the Jem guitar just like it began.
Got that off the website here : http://www.vai.com/News/news.html

Scared me at first. Then I realized it's probably an April Fools joke.

Honestly, it really wouldn't surprise me if this was true! *I hope it's not, but I won't be shocked if it is.

I hope it isn't, but we don't really know yet (unless someone has an inside source that's not messing with them). *Let's just hope it's a joke, and see for sure on Tuesday.

No mention of UVs. Thank God.

But then again, he kind of gave up on them years ago. Everybody please send me your antiquated UVs to be numbered and stored in my state of the art storage facility. It's only disguised to look like a studio. They will enjoy retirement in a loving, positive atmosphere, each recieveing individual attention and a yearly string change.

eh....I'm reluctant to believe it. *Between being "that time of year", the Jem 777WHs having a consistent sell and Steves love for endorsements (note Steinberger tuner endorsement on locking tremolo) I'm pretty skeptical of it. *Both he and Ibanez make good money with the Jems. *

However the product line has been pretty stagnant lately and there's been more "misses" than "hits" in the past few years. *Additionally he's been playing the same damned 2 VWHs for how long? *A decent custom shop should be able to make him many replacements without too much trouble.

And I think he'd go out with a bigger bang than just a limited release of 777. *Christ, he donated blood for the 2KDNA. *I'd at least expect part of his spleen on a "farewell model".

We'll know Tuesday.....

That's sick. * *C'mon, the final model has got to be the EVO & FLO replica models released side by side. *And Bob noticed a good point, their killing the JEMs, but leaving the UV, which has been notorious for selling badly?

:rotf:
but I do think that a special custom made 7VWH would make a nice last model...

I also think that Vai's love of endorsements is another good point.
