leaving plastic on uv guard

I'm wondering if there will be any adverse effects from leaving the factory plastic on my UV mirror pickguard for an indefinate time. I have no immediate plans on taking the guitar out of my home so theres no need to remove it. I'd like to preserve the guard for as long as possible. Does it become more difficult to remove the longer it stays on?

Nope. But it becomes a pain for me when it starts peeling off. I took it off when I got my guitar. But keep it on for the added protection, and take it off when it starts peeling, because in my opinion, it makes a beautiful guitar look butt-ugly.
