Is it a lot better?

I want to know if I play Steve Vai stuff, will Ibanez JEM555 be a lot better than Washburn WI-65C? Ibanez JEM555 is a lot more expensive, but is it a lot better than Washburn WI-65C? THANKS

I don't know but the JEM555 has Evolution pickups and those are quite nice .

Re: Is it a lot better?

Actually I don't believe the JEM 555 is as bad as some band wagon jumpers on this site make it out to be. Yeah it's not a JEM7VWH and it doesn't have an Edge Tremelo, it has the Lo PRS Tremelo. However there are signed recording artists ie Herman Li - Dragonforce (a Jemsite member) who uses an Ibanez S series with the the Lo PRS with no issues on tour. It certainly looks the business but for my money I'd probably stick with a RG550, 570, or 770 all of which you can find used for $450-$450. They come with the edge trem but usually are lacking in the pickup dept which is not a huge deal anyway unless you plan on gigging, then you might want to drop another $200 bucks for a set of Dimarzio's, EMG's, Seymour Duncans etc.

Re: Is it a lot better?

Actually, older 555's have the Lo-TRS-II, new ones have the Edge Pro 2.

Lo TRS, not PRS and no, Herman Li uses a Zero Resistance bridge.

I'm still suprised that Herman is using the ZR and that it can stay in tune after heavy abuse.

Re: Is it a lot better?

Abstain from 333's and 555's. An RG is a better option. And no, you don't need a Jem to play Vai, just a guitar that works for you and lots of time to practice.

JP

Very rarely...lately he is starting to but for years his S470SOL had a Lo-TRS in it...watch their music videos, that guitar is in all of them.

He's also posted on here several times mentioning that guitar has a Lo-TRS.

Yep - the guitar does not make the player!!!

But the right guitar can help out.

And, if you're going to get a Jem, get a real Jem (the 555 is NOT a real Jem) Otherwise go the RG option that JP stated

Re: Is it a lot better?

There are no tuning stability issues with the ZR.

It doesn't matter what Herman uses. He still sucks.
