Question Low action, tremolo pull ups and pickup height...

When I try and do crazy Vai pull ups with my Edge, the strings always end up hitting the bridge pickup. I've tried lowering the pickup, but to get the problem to go away the pickup loses too much output and starts to sound thin and plinky. I'd really rather not change my action (but I will if it's the only solution)

Any tips?

I could be wrong but you might need to shim the neck to give the bridge/neck some angle, i'd reccomend reading up the tech section of ibanez rules it's really informative, and will give you info you should know before fidling with anything...

I personally have my action high so dont get any choking from the bridge, but im sure theres a way to compromise with the bridge/neck and pickups....

Good luck

Active pickups will have no effect on the problem listed--it's a clearance issue.

Re: Low action, tremolo pull ups and pickup height...

The height of the pickup has to be higher than the neck, so ozzuk may be right. What is the action like now? I'm guessing high. The strings have to clear the pickup and, if on a pull up of the bar, the strings contact the pickup first, the distance between the neck and strings is greater than the distance between the pickup and strings.

Good point, sometimes the obvious eludes us.
