modified js100 what else to do?

hi everyone.

i have recentley had my MIJ js100 modified a bit.. changed the frets to 6105's, changed the pickups to fred&paf pro. now the neck is the silkiest i've ever played, and there is an amazing change in the overall tone.

my question is, especially to those who have owned both the 100 and 1000, what is the difference, tonewise and 'feel'wise, between a such modified js100 and js1000? would you still recommend going for the 1000? (i am not able to go and try out one myself unfortunately.. )

you should save for a js1000 and not put your money in this js100.....

but: the trem on the js1000 is much better, the finish (btb) also

my standard answer to questions like this is:

you'll want to get a js1000 (1/2/6/90th/10th/y2k/2000cg/6000 etc.) at some point anyways so don't waste your money on something you're gonna replace asap.

Being as you have put some $$$'s into that JS,i'd suggest getting an edge trem,You might be lucky and it'll fit no problems, otherwise a little wood will need shaving in the trem cavity (oh you'll have to align the inserts a little also i belive)

well you could add an edge trem and locking stud post, or even just locking stud post will highly improve your tuning stability. I would also suggest stripping all the finish from the neck, and you may even consider upgrading the imput jack and trying some push pull pots like on the js1000's

if you do all these mods you'll have a cheap js1000 and will have paid about as much as you would have if you had gone for a 1000 straight

One of the reason for me to keep owning the JS 100 is the finish. The black finish is like silk and really gives me smooth feeling, not the BTB nor the BP can do. Despite of this..., nothing

The pickups can't make comparison with JS1000, but it give very classic tone though.

I really hope someday there will be a JS 1000 BK

I agree with jolly about the finish. I think the BK on the 100's is way nicer than the BP on the 1000's. The red finish is also very cool although I always hated the white (100 or 1000).

I think the red looks cheap with the hardware and adornment choice. The js series is very plain but extremely understated in quality

i like the red too... but i'd never put it above a btb

the wh and bp aren't too much of beauties, imo... but that's my taste (and your's obviously)...

nevertheless i'd rather go for a 1000bp than a 100tr

looking forward to new 1000 finishes, though

so, can we say that the following is true...

js100 + pups + finish + frets + edge + pots, etc. = js1000 ??

gets closer but still ain't it.
if it's MIJ (like the first post stated, i don't know of js100s MIJ, tbh) you'll get even closer.

but: the neck is said to be a tad different (dunno, never could really compare one to the other) and the joe satriani inlay sucks
as far as i remember the js1000 neck is multiradiused and the js100 neck isn't... (?)

also they got different hardware (tuners) i believe (or does the js100 have gotohs?)...

and even if you were right: js100 + pups + finish + frets + edge + pots, etc. ain't much cheaper than a plain js1000, i reckon

is it?

Right on the "multiradiused" neck. I hate that term. "conical" is easier to type.

Yeah, I agree it's much better to get a JS1000 (or, I gotta say it, a used 540R) and sell the JS100. But now that you're part of the way there, you have a harder decision.
