Moving knob position on a 7VWH - Is it possible to repositio

Hey fellas,

I'm considering getting a 7VWH , but my only concern is the placement of the volume knob. *I currently play an '89 RG570 but the volume knob is always in the way when I do some serious picking. *Any 7V owners have this prob? *Also, is this particular guitar routed in front so that I could reposition the volume pots? (ie get a replacement pickguard with drill holes for the control pots a little bit lower.)

Thanks for your help.

OOPs, sorry, I posted this in the wrong section. *I didn't realize there was a tech section.

you could get a new guard with the hole where you like, or drill a new hole in the existing pickguard. i find the vol knob a bit too close for comfort myself. I don't they'll be changing that anytime soon however ... glen

I had the same problem. I thought of replacing the volumn pot with a mini "on/off" switch ("on" pointing down). Then I decided to just pull the volumn pot out of the pick guard, tape the shaft in the full open position and push the pot into the cavity. I am lazy and did not feel like rewiring. Then I filled the hole with a "dummy" pot and replaced the knob.
This method allowed me to have the stock look and it is easily returned to the stock configuration.

personally i find it in quite a good position, when i'm picking high e my pinky tends to shape itself around it so it also allows me to adjust the vol whilst in mid flow.

I'd say if you really want the guitar it may be worth making that slight right hand adaptation, just see it as another trick in your bag.

You could always switch them so the vol takes place of the tone and do as big al has and fill the hole.

It bugs me when I rest my hand on the bridge (which is about 75% of the time normally) but only 5% of the time on my 7V because the knob gets in the way. *Even worse is the single coil, that REALLY gets in the way.
