My first build: A JEM clone

Just bought this body from Nate, which I'm also having him clear-coat. Plus, I'm picking up one of his pyramid-inlayed rosewood necks like the one pictured.

I might go with the "JP" Crunch-Lab/LiquiFire combo of pickups, as I'm quite impressed by the sound samples I've heard even right here in the review database. (Thank you, racerevlon!) I assume those sound fairly good in a Basswood guitar?

I'm pretty set on getting black hardware for it, but I'm not quite settled on the color for the pickups. I'm thinking of green. Opinions?

Cheers,

Gary

I say pink pickups and knobs. That's what I have for the swirled Fireman I'm getting from Nate. Lord, I wish DiMarzio did orange for one of the 540PII bodies I have coming.

DiMarzio should be able to do Orange, you just gotta ask them to. Contact a guy named banjomikez on the evil auction site. He can get 'er done.

How is that neck? Im unsure about the guys who make necks, seems like it would be hard to get them right to me.

Not really! As in any woodworking project--measure twice, cut once. Dimensions are readily available, and any woodworker worth their weight in bubinga could easily master neck building.

Wasn't too crazy about that swirl at first, but with the clear coat on that thing looks juicy! Can't wait to see it finished up!

Re: My first build: A JEM clone

Dude, you DEFINATELY need a Green Humbucker at the neck to contrast against the pink and a pink humbucker at the bridge to contrast the green. That would look the sweetness mate. I'd also go for green knobs and definately a black bridge

Re: My first build: A JEM clone

Looking sweet! Gotta have some green pups! Nate does some good work.

I built this one for my son who plays it daily. Its easy to screw the neck on, but another thing to have it play like a dream. The neck and body were from Legacy, and i did the finish. Lots of work involved, but the DNA clone came out pretty good.
