My first Jem! My first problem! - it was going so well...

Hi, I finally got my first Jem today. After what seems like an age of listening to Steve and coming here and drooling over these legendary beasts, it's finally here. It's a Jem10, very nice indeed.

However, it's driving me crazy!! I would appreciate any advice.
I'm no stranger to Floyd Rose guitars and I can set them up no worries, but oh man this is killing me. I'm getting the nastiest buzz from the trem whenever I play anything past fret 5. Initially I had to raise the trem a little because I was getting a little fret noise, but now this horrid buzzing sounds like Steve put in a commemorative 10th anniversary beehive behind the unit. Oh mercy me!
I've read the setup pages on this site, and I fully understand them and they have proven useful (good job to the authors, btw) but this ain't good. Brand new strings (.009s) installed by the previous seller. I stretched them in, like a good little boy. I even let the axe rest for a while following transit despite the fact it was calling my name all day.

Take care, and now I'm part of the club, where do I go for my free Carvin Legacy?

101 Thanks in advance.

My first Jem! My first problem!

Congratulations and welcome to the Ibanez family of proud JEM/UV owners! I'm sorry to hear your troubled, especially with a JEM10, the creme de la creme. Im guessing the guitar was used, so it might be a good idea to go to your local guitar store and get it set up. It sounds like your truss rod needs adjustment, and/or maybe the trem springs need replacment or adjustment. I had the same problem with my JPM before.

You need a full setup from start to finish. If following the setup guide on jemsite is too cumbersome then i recommend a local shop well versed in floating tremolos. Good luck & congrats on the 10... glen

You're London based right Hamand? if so I recommend Electrohill - they do a great setup or, if you're prepared to take it a bit further from home, IMHO Machinehead in Hitchin do the best setups on this side of the pond

My first Jem! My first problem!

thank you thank you thank you for all your sentiments and advice.
I've just read in the Tech forum that it might be the springs vibrating, and hence muffling the springs could help.
Oddly enough, the sound has stopped, but the truss rod definitely needs adjusting so I'll spin that round ten times or so.

If that doesn't work, as much as I'd prefer to do it myself (Glen, perhaps you misunderstood me, but the setup guide is anything BUT cumbersome; I love it and if it were female I'd marry it and have loads of weird children) I'll go to a store. Thanks Jono for the tips. Where are you, btw?

The noise stopped once I chopped it into little pieces and put them in a bag.
