My Jem 77FP

Just bought this JEM 77FP a couple of days ago from its current owner for just little under $500.
Its from 1990 or 91 so its 20 years old.
Its a very used, and bruised JEM if I may say so.
Will bring it to a guitar repair clinic this weekend for refretting and a major neck repair. The rosewood fingerboard doesnt have a problem.

While there is nothing that can be done to restore the laminated body design, it still sounds and plays well. The action is good and even the rusty Edge trem still keeps itself in tune which permitted me to enjoy whammy bar playing on some tunes since the day that I got the guitar

I'll definitely keep this one.

Re: My Jem 77FP

I really like that more unusual pattern than what you see normally on FP's. A bit faded, or is your camera doing tricks?

I wouldn't mind those cracks. My FP's got the same amount of them, but what the heck? Guitars are made for playing, not to be collected behind bars.

Re: My Jem 77FP

Yeah my FP is pretty beat up too.

Looks like a candidate for a refinish!

Re: My Jem 77FP

Thanks its more accurately closer to $450 at the current exchange rate.
It is quite faded. I would assume the lamination on top of the cloth pattern has yellowed making everything duller. And there are crumbling laminate plastic everywhere.

I agree that is better to play with guitars than keep them behind bars. It actually sounds great and plays well even up to now. At least I dont have to worry about scratching or bruising this one any worse than it is.

I will bring it to a guitar hospital this weekend to have it refretted and to have a nasty crack on the rear neck repaired (near the lock nut). Knobs are on order too. If that shop would have the capability and to even accept refinishing this, I will be happier

OT: and I just found another person selling a JS1000 Black 1994 for just $660 ! with just the hardware having expected rustiness as the only issue

Re: My Jem 77FP

Nice find.

Nothing wrong with some battle scarring and it sounds like the Mojo is indeed still there.

My Jem is a little beat up but sounds just fine and I don't have to stress every time the kids are around it. Means it gets played more.

Cheers,
Shane

Looks like she spent some time in the sun or too many trips to the tanning salon.
Cool find, though!

Re: My Jem 77FP

If it was a Fender in that shape, people would be taking out second mortgages to buy it.

Great find!

Peace

Re: My Jem 77FP

That is beautiful. It's naturally reliced, not done in some factory under a microscope.
