My new Jem 77vbk!!

I was reading on here that the 777vbk was kind of an unimpressive Jem!I have to disagree!I do love the Jem 7vwh but I always thought the 777vbk was very metal!I always loved Trey Azaghtoth(Morbid Angel) and his Universe 7 string, but i could never handle a seven string!so to get my mits on one of these was like a dream come true!Anyone else a fan of this model??I think it has PAF pro pickups!say I bought evo pick ups:

1:are they better??
2:can i keep the green covers from my paf pros?
3:is it really worth the hassle?(ie,is there a big enough difference in sound to justify the work??)

Paul

....new to the world of jem guitars!what a cosy nest this is!!!:P

That's completely up to your preference. If you like the 7VWH sound better, then you probably prefer the EVOs.

No. Humbuckers don't have covers. Order your new Evos with the proper color bobbins to start with.

Is what worth the hassle? Changing the pups? Again, it depends on which pickups you want. Changing the pups is pretty simple -- hardly a hassle. Pick the guitar you want and put the pups you want in it.

Re: My new Jem 77vbk!!

I think the VBK is a very cool looking guitar. I'd grab one if somebody told me i needed another Jem (don't ya hate it when that happens???)

You may want to consider leaving the pAF pro in the neck position. It's really lovely. I have a BFP and i put an Evolution in the bridge and a VirtuAL 2 bridge model in the middle (wired as a single) and it's a monster tone in any position. I'm not a big fan on the Evo in the neck position...a little harsh on my ears.

Order your pickups in green, or if it's too late you can always get bobbin toppers in whatever color you like. The green is obviously the color of choice on that model.

Re: My new Jem 77vbk!!

Nice score and congrats! I too, have always been a Trey Azagthoth fan and I saw Morbid Angel live back in 1994 but he was playing a PWH at the show and I knew I had to have one, I also felt that way about the UV7BK, thanks to Rich, I acquired both these guitars, the UV7BK most recently, I love it, it has become my main player. I just saw some cool Morbid Angel vids, live in Wacken, 2006 and he's playing a UV7BK, very cool.

I really like the black with green accents on both the UV7BK and Jem777VBK. Any pics of your newly acquired Jem777vbk?

Try Sigler Music on *bay - they delivered a Blue Air Norton to me here in Sydney quite cheaply and quickly.

Cheers,

David - Oh, BTW, the ToneZone in the bridge also works rather well with a PAFPro in the neck possie - just to add a bit of confusion!

Re: My new Jem 77vbk!!

I LOVE THE 777VBK. Here's is a pic of mine. I put an evo in the bridge. Just like everyone has said, mucho more output. Bobbin toppers are the answer. Here is a pic of mine with thhe bobbin toppers on. I put them on in a hurry and the neck one is coming off. Take your time puting them on annd you will have no problem.

Personally I like the Paf Pros much better than the Evos.

Ditto.
I'd advise you to try a guitar with Evos first before you buy them as they are too shrill for most people and only sound passable under full gain.

Re: My new Jem 77vbk!!

i have an Evo in the bridge, stock mid pup and a PAF in the neck and i consider my VBK a perfect all around player with this combo. for some reason the Evo isn't as top endy or uncontrollable as the one in my VWH - body woods might be the reason (basswood vs alder).
backing the volume off a bit seems to work with my VWH but i don't need to do that with my VBK. strange?
congrats on your VBK - i will never part with mine. i wanted one since they came out and after 15yrs i finally got mine. couldn't be happier with it. now i just need a Floral to keep "old school" company with the VBK.
