NatePerle Opinions On jem style....

Hey everyone, I have been looking for a Jem777DY custom neck for ages now... I bought one on ebay, but the seller ended up not selling it to me.

I was just wondering if anyone knew about the quality of nate perles Ibanez Jem style necks?

(Or the overall quality of his work)

Before I drop 400 bucks for a neck, I would like to know if he puts out good work!
(If not any other custom shop suggestions?)
Thanks,

Verus

Re: NatePerle Opinions On jem style....

Nate is actually local to me......... he invited me to come by the shop at any time but I haven't had the time to go. His invite alone tells me he's probably a stand up guy. At the very least, He's proud enough of his work to let someone in to see the "guts" of the operation.

If I get a chance to go, I'll report back...............

Re: NatePerle Opinions On jem style....

I've got Nate Perle parts. Of the luthiers who specialize in ibanez parts I've ordered from he's the only one that has ever delivered. AND within his quoted timetable. Nate's parts are CNC'd and perfect. Nate's neck is as good or better than any $3K+ guitar Ive played, gibson, ibanez, prs ect....

If hes got the exact neck you want in his store, thats a bird in hand... E.T., I;ve been on order with him for over 2 years now. Just saying.

THANKS MAN! You just gave me more confidence to order from him!

Your information has helped. Haha,

Many custom shops are way too backlogged, and they tend to get behind orders.
Thank you,

B

I think you already made up your mind, but just want conformation that Perle is the way to go.

A lot of people are happy with Perle, so go for it! And make sure to make a NGD thread

Re: NatePerle Opinions On jem style....

I ordered, recieved, and had my local guitar store tech complete my guitar project with the neck I bought from him. The neck was excellent, excellent quality wood, frets were awesome, inlays were awesome, awesome attention to detail. His work is excellent and like one of the posters mentioned he actually came through on the time you would recieve your guitar part.

Re: NatePerle Opinions On jem style....

From another build thread with a Perle Jem-style neck:

The edge of that fretboard looks pretty nasty and would not be comfortable to play. The routing work on the inlays looks so-so as well.

Compare that to the ET neck from Macka's project:

This isn't even a fair comparison as far as I'm concerned.

Re: NatePerle Opinions On jem style....

To be fair, this was in another thread, and is from an Ibanez PMC:

http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f15/th...d-84525-7.html

Note the corners of the pyramids -- they look like the Perle neck.

I have been researching a similar project, and everything that I have read tells me that this type of inlay work is very hard to do on lighter-coloured woods. My research indicates that many find it easier to do on darker woods because it's easier to match the colour of the fill for the areas around the inlay to the fretboard wood.
