Neck on the new Jem?

I know that there were probably a few people out there with BRMRs and DBKs that went and got a new neck of the new 77V to stick a vine on their guitar (well it would sound like a good idea to me, if anyone hadn't done that).

I was just wondering if the new 77V has the same neck (bubbinga stripe, very thin) neck that the DBKs (and I think BRMRs have them too) have? Anybody know for sure?

Re: Neck on the new Jem?

i'm not sure that it's been done, atleast here on jemsite.. most people instead got their existing necks inlayed.

it'd be very hard to get a 77v neck without buying the whole guitar..

Re: Neck on the new Jem?

Well there were some pictures posted in the Neon and Jem thread where there were two guitars in a garden and the BRMR had a Vine fretboard with a black head stock. I think the owner said he swapped out the necks, but i guess that's irrelevent to most of your comment anyways.

I've tried one, but i haven't played a Jem long enough to spot the difference. I don't even own one at this point. If i see one again, il put it to the test against a 7v.

Il pay attention

I wasn't really interested in getting it done myself, I only wanted to know if they all used the same necks, just different inlays and scalloping. Because I love the DBK neck, very thin. I was only wondering if they all had the same neck so if anyone who swapped necks for the inlay might have to use a neck with different specs

Re: Neck on the new Jem?

On a BRMR I could see doing the swap of necks but I don't see the point on a DBK. The DBK is the same guitar with a sub-par finish, or less glamorous anyway!

Re: Neck on the new Jem?

The DBK had a different neck profile than any other Jem - much thinner.

The BRMR that you guys are referring to is JJEMMERs that has a custom inlayed vine in the original neck.

I'd like to have seen the new 77VBK with pyramids personally

You can also find the DBK profile neck on a DNA and even the HAM. All thin and wide with a bubinga reinforcement. The HAM feels a bit different due to the ebony board.

Re: Neck on the new Jem?

Thanks for the info eviltwin. I've never held a 90 HAM or DNA. I just assumed they were only on the DBK since I read alot of info posted about the thinness of the DBK's over other Jems but I guess alot of people that own DBKs rarely own DNAs or 90th HAMs or vice versa.

I owned a DBK at one point - super thin neck. I might grab another one I found recently for a nice price

You see that is what I mean- I was just wondering, seeing as the rest of the three guitars (asides finish and necks) was the same.

I only wanted to know if the new 77V and the BRMR had the same neck profile/ specs/ reinforcement strip as the DNA, HAM and DBK.

As for not seeing a point in swapping necks on the DBK/ 77V, I don't see why it would be any different to the BRMR: Both had chrome, both had dot inlays. Then along comes a jem with a chrome vine- an easy fix for a problem many jemsiters don't seem to like.

And maybe I'm biased because I own one, but I like the DBK finish more than a regular clear coat one. If playing in a t shirt, the skin on my arm kind of grips to the clear coat over the arm rest- but without a clear coat I don't experience this.

I actually thought about this on the scenerio if I ever get a DBK and a VBK at the same time.... I've played a DBK, BRMR, and a VBK from guitar shopping... last time I played a DBK was a few years ago before the BRMR came out... and then I got to play a BRMR and VBK a couple months ago...
point being... the BRMR had a very similar feel / profile to a DBK but it didn't have the bubinga strip if i remembered correctly... the VBK on the other hand felt exactly like a VWH... except in black *shrug* not worth the swap imo.
personally, i love the DBK neck but would rather place a mirror vine or maybe a DNA inlay instead

Re: Neck on the new Jem?

See, I would never swap out a DBK neck purely for inlays if I were going to sacrifice a less common jem neck, which I really like. If I was going to do a swap for inlays, I would want the neck profile to stay the same. If I wanted a wizard or standard jem neck, I would keep it separate from my DBK.

I thought the BRMR and the new VBK had Jem profile necks rather than the super wizard ultra thin DBK shape?
