Re: Neck pocket crack.

That's pretty deep, maybe you should get it checked out.

Re: Neck pocket crack.

I have the same thing on my 777sk, and it's even deeper than that! It's so common though, I don't think there's anything to worry about it, but I could be wrong. Just by doing a little research on jemsite, it's seems that it's the norm on these older jems, even one guy mentioned that vai has a neck pocket crack on one of his jems, and if he can live with it, you certainly can!

Re: Neck pocket crack.

This is normal and most of the time doesn't affect anything except for the looks.

Re: Neck pocket crack.

Is this caused with the pull of the neck or just a natural crack in the body wood.

Re: Neck pocket crack.

The crack is usually only in the paint, not the wood. Still the neck pocket should be inspected to ensure there's no crack in the wood. Remove the neck and check it out.

Re: Neck pocket crack.

That doesn't look all that too terribly bad. I think you could live with it. Take the neck off and take a good look, but it looks pretty normal to me.

Re: Neck pocket crack.

Well in order to repair the crack (if it is in the wood) you will have to be able to separate it enough to get some glue in there. If the crack is in the wood, and you can only get a minor amount of separation, use some water thin CA glue (super glue) and clamp it until the glue cures. However if the crack is in just the paint, leave it alone.

Re: Neck pocket crack.

It doesn't even sound like we've ascertained whether the crack is just a finish crack or it's actually in the wood. If it's just in the finish then it's nothing to worry about.
