Neck pocket stamp JEM-77 BFP

Heres mine.

Does EVERY BFP have that stamp in the neck pocket???
I checked every detail on my newly aquired used JEM77 BFP, everything looks perfectly original.
I checked because I became suspicious about the sound. It doesn't sound warm and soft as in so many recordings I heard. So I started checking and couldn't find anything.
Now I stumbled across this picture.
My neck pocket is somewhat stamped, but it doesn't say JEM-77 BFP but the stamp on the neck does!

Dude the sound of an electric will be more about the electronics than about the wood. I say this from your description only. Could be you hear a broken body/neck.

At least, sound-wise, I would check the electronics first for the obvious issues. Personally I wouldn't strip the guitar as much as you did because of the sound.

Unless, of course, you already checked the electronics.

Most bodies will have been stamped, I guess, but there will always be exceptions or the previous owner did something like sanding the pocket. Rich can probably say something about that.

Re: Neck pocket stamp JEM-77 BFP

Sorry, Ibateur, I have to disagree!
The wood, as well as the quality of the used parts and woods DEFINITELY have a great influence on the sound.

If the body was NOT original but some cheapo Chinese 7 piece junk body, there would be a big difference in sound, even if it's the same wood.

If you dismount your electrics from your guitar and mount it to another one, it will sound different! If only the electrics would influence the tone, it wouldn't sound different. If only the electrics would influence tone, there would be no use of using mahogany, Ash, Alder or Basswood, it would all sound the same with the same electrics. It doesn't!

Yes, I have checked the electrics, they're soldered properly. I just expected a warmer, softer tone, but then again: every guitar has its own character in sound.

Re: Neck pocket stamp JEM-77 BFP

BTW, don't worry about stripping my guitar, I've been restaurating and rebuilding electric guitars for 25 years (mostly USA Fender Strats), I'm just new to Ibanez Jems and have hardly any experience in confirming authenticity of Jems.

With all those fakes on the market I'm just being careful.

I know this topic from the Fender Strats. Sometimes it's very hard to tell.

You should check the bottom of the pickups to make sure they're PAF's, that wiring doesn't look right for factory, neither does the VLX91, and the pickups don't have the Dimarzio logo.

Re: Neck pocket stamp JEM-77 BFP

I checked, it says Dimarzio on the bottom of the PUs.
I couldn't find any pictures of the pickups in the net where you can see the bottom.
I'll make pics tomorrow, I just have reassembled the guitar, it's 11:30 pm here in Germany and I'll go to bed now.

I have already noticed that this is not the original factory soldering.

Yes, I noticed that someone else must have soldered around there. What's the VLX 91?? The poti?

Logo on the top of the boibbin. I doubt the pickups and switch are original, were probably changed to EVO's, and is probably why it doesn't sound as you expect.

Re: Neck pocket stamp JEM-77 BFP

PS.: I checked many pictures online, only one had the Dimarzio logo on the PU covers. Most of the BFPs don't have them. Anyway.... see ya tomorrow!
