Necks and Bodies - Necks and Bodies

I'm about to start selling custom necks and bodies.
I thought I would talk to the people that want them first.
What are you guys interested in?
Are six string or seven strings at the top of your list?
What woods are you guys hungry for?
I will have custom necks and bodies as well as reproductions of other well known pieces as well.
Pickups, Bridges and Tuners will be available as well.
If you want a whole guitar let me know!

Hi Sebastian,

I cannot guarantee you to buy one but here's my $.02.

I miss corina bodies mostly. A die for combination would be a 6 or 7 string guitar with a corina body and an all rosewood neck. Would that be an inspiration for you?

Mahogony with AAA or better flame/quilt tops at least 1/8" thick.
2 piece, center joint rather than 3 piece.
RG and Jem with both neck joints.

Price is the biggest consideration for me. I'll pay for quality.

What is most important to me, as well as many here, is customer service and follow through. Enough said.

All of the bodies will be two pieces of wood and not three.
I'm going to put a few out there for people to see.
Most orders will be custom.
That doesen't mean it will take forever to get yours.

Still 6 or 7?

I'm guessing you mean 6 or 7 string models. I say...do both. You will probably get more calls for the 6 stringers...but don't limit yourself, do the 7's as well.

What neck joint will you be concentrating on?

I for one would like to see your work

Have you set a price on them yet?

I will be doing both neck joints.
It all depends on what you order.
I need to do a little more research on pricing before I open my mouth.
I'm going to have several levels of pricing.

I think nice and interesting non-standard woods like Korina, Mahogany, or even Padouk if you can get it may attract customers, and I agree with Jimm - most people I think will pay extra for top quality

I've been doing electronic mods for years.
I want to know what kind of Inlays are you guys looking for?
Standard stuff or even crazier stuff?

7-strings man! *I would go for 7-strings cuz they're really growing in popularity. *What would really give you a lot of business is doing whatever the customer wants, giving them progress reports where possible, so they get as close to what they want as they can. *Be able to do the wildest, weirdest things, but also the standards. *Oh, and make sure you can do lefties, especially lefty 7s and lefty remakes of *standards like JEMs, UVs, etc. *I know for a fact that they are in high demand. *Don't be too afraid to try new things, because that's how the music industry is going lately. *I say BRING IT ON!! lol

sebastian, are you gonna hand cut these bodies or use a fadal machine or other type of cutter? *
I'd be interested in seeing some of your work. *
I agree with Jimm, customer service is a huge plus.

Hey, Sebastian--

I think a couple of cool woods would be full flame or quilt maple without any mahogany or backing of any kind. *I have a couple of guitars like this and they really sing. *I really like the sound of an ash or swamp ash body as well, and I have a buddy with a non-Ibanez guitar with an ash body. *He put Evolutions in it (the pickups are direct-mount to the wood) and I've never heard anything quite like it. *It's got a ton of low end. *Just my opinion, though. *

As far as the 6 or 7 string thing goes, I agree with pretty much everyone else. *Both are a necessity, and anything with an a.a.n.j. is comfortable with me. *I think most people here agree with that.*

Inlays? *Totally custom, man!! *I want abalone inlays of a fist with the middle finger up! *Ha! *Right! *I'm sure that's never been thought of before.

Final point: *Damn good idea asking the people who hang on this website. *I think it makes a ton of sense asking people what they want before you try to produce it. *I tip my hat to ya, and best of luck. *If you set up a website, let us all know a.s.a.p.

Later,
mg
