new jem 7vwh

hey, i just recieved my new jem 7v in the mail and the tuning is great, it stays in tune no matter how much the wammy bar is used.

all was fine until i took off the pressure pads and tuned it down half a step but by the time i put the pressure pads back on it goes slightly out of tune, also when the strings are tuned down they dont buzz from the fret or anything but they become very spanky if you know what i mean. being a first time locking nut/ trem user i would appreciate help!
thanks.

Re: new jem 7vwh

Since you are tuning down lower that standard, you will need to loosent the springs on the back slightly to compensate, that is where you problem is coming from. The "knife edges"-The piece of metal on the front of each side of the trem, which you can also see from the side, should be leve with each "stud" that the bridge is balancing on.

Re: new jem 7vwh

Nah, it should be perfectly safe. All you are doing is tightening the two screws on the cavity to balance the bridge. fairly simple, but a little tedious. I would leave the nut unlocked, from the top, and retune each time you turn the screws on the thing that the springs go around - thats called the "spring-claw" by the way, and the two screws are called "claw screws". So every time you turn the claw screw, it will have an equal-and-opposite reaction to the strings - if you are tightening the springs, the strings will get tighter as well, so you need to compensate. In YOUR situation, you should need to LOOSEN the springs a bit, and you will continually have to re-tune as you go. this being your first time, it may take over half an hour

TL;DR You should be perfectly safe! just read this http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/angle.htm

Goodluck!
