New JEM Set up.

Well I've had my JEM for two weeks now and ive been fidlling with the action alot. One question I have is, from the day i got it the whammy bar has a tendency to hit the pickup selector when its in the middle position, I was wondering if this is normal. I also was wondering about a buzzing problem. Ive had alot of buzzing on the low E string but I believe it might be associated with the Elixir strings im using (.09-.42). Thanks for the time, as I am new here if this is in the wrong area, or has been addressed in a previous topic direction to such a thread would be greatly appreciated.

Re: New JEM Set up.

Welcome to the site!
First, you need to post pix so we can all see it, second, give us more info- I don't think those strings are the reason for buzzing on the low E. Sounds like there might be a truss rod tweak in your future (which is not a big deal).

The whammy should stay clear of the selector switch - pix would help to understand but it sounds like the bridge might need an adjustment.

You can use the 'search' function to help locate specific info here on the site.

Re: New JEM Set up.

Well I did indeed adjust the truss rod, I also adjusted the tremolo so that it allows the bar to clear the pickup selector. So thanks for the imput. I used the set up tips on this site and got the action real nice, atleast good enough until i feel like getting a real pro to do it. Only problem I'm having now is sometimes i get a weird almost octave/overtone sound when not playing through the amp on my high e at the 12th fret. Im not sure what it is, its occasional, and sometimes almost seems like its hitting the resonant frequency of something in the guitar. Might have to raise the action a little because its like 1.7mm at the 12th. IT doesnt seem to be buzzing though because bends arent muted. So imput on this would be appreciated.. Thanks haha

oh god, welcome to my world. i've gone through three rg2550z's with this problem, gone to luthiers and guitar shops and contacted rich. if it's the same problem as on my guitar, there's nothing you can do about it. it's just that that note resonates with the frequency that the wood resonates at as well. my 17th fret G string note is almost non-existant, it barely sustains at all. raising the action won't help if it's the same problem i have.
