Re: The New Satriani DVD

I hated his last cd and since the extremist album, I only liked a bunch of songs from all albums.
IF he invites some musicians like Vai did with those violin players, MacAlpine etc, I could expect some creativity from him but I'm pretty sure he'll do what he always did, he plays his songs like if we were listening to a cd and........bye bye.
Boring.
But I hope I'm wrong and he will come up with something full of surprises.

Re: The New Satriani DVD

I would buy it. I like the new album. I pretty much like it all though. I have all but like 4 albums to get and don't dislike any songs, just favor some songs over others. I do kinda wish he changed it up a bit live but at the same time with instrumental you can't deviate from it to much.

Re: The New Satriani DVD

hope he gets another crew to edit his next dvd. his last dvd is absolute crap. not joe's playing but the idiots who edited it. the mixing of it was all over the place, like a bad wedding video that looks like a music video.

Dude you're wrong.
They did exactly what Satch asked/wanted.
Or what?
Do you think they used supernatural powers to make Satch accepts their crap effects?
Nope, they did what Satch wanted.
It's crap but it's what Satch wanted.
What in the world could possible make you think they edited his dvd and released it without letting Satch watch it?
Dude Satch was part of all editing.
Everything they did Satch approved and I bet the majority he asked for.
It's not Satch's crew dvd lol
Lord...it must be something in the water

That's funny, I grew up listening to the pre-Extremist era of his albums, but I can't listen to them much anymore. The playing is awesome obviously, but the tones seem cheesy and dated to me. I find that Strange Beautiful Music, Super Colossal, and Crystal Planet have more organic guitar tones, more interesting songs, and a lot more staying power.

Well talking about a whole album, I only like the extremist.
All pre and post albums just have some songs I like.
About his tones I prefer his live ones.
And by live I mean being in front of him at the stage.
Live dvds have great tones too but they're better in front of the stage

MIke Keneally is playing keys on the album and also during the tour, so you may expect some creativity as satch let Mike add his own influence to the compositions. And you can feel that through the whole album, the keys are very present, truly fulfilling the purpose of adding something to the other layers. It's definitely a new approach and I like that!
Mike is a true genius, he used to play with Vai an also with Franck Zappa. You may expect some creativity, don't you?

Hahahaha, I can't stress that enough! If you have to change the tuning, at least change the intervals to make it sound interesting but if you only drop Ĺ step....pointless......get a 7string guitar if you want lower notes.

geez.
