Steer well clear and keep saving up. It'll be well worth a bit of extra saving for a used RG5** or RG7** series. Trust me I've been asked to set a couple of them up and they're just not as good as they should be.

Are you sure it was a 555 or was it a 333 (Jem Jnr?)

Re: New shop opened near me and it has a 555...

£300 for a 555 is pretty good but it still doesn't change the fact that with possibly a little bit more (like £350) you could get a good RG550 off ****.

Don't save up for the 7v, you'll be saving up A LOT more, buy an RG and upgrade the pickups if necessary, you'll have just as good a guitar as the 7v for a heck of a lot less money, you could put the extra money towards another guitar or a really nice amp

Re: New shop opened near me and it has a 555...

I've got an RG550 and an RG760 in the classifieds

Either way you spin it, £300 is cheap for a 555 because the going rate for them over here is £400-450 used.

+1

Rg's are much better than the 555. If you just like it's sound, replace stock PU's with EVO's.

Dragon Slayer J, check out the guitars I've got on the classifieds because I can guarantee they'll both blow ANY 555 out of the water and that's not just me saying it. If you want a quality axe steer towards Jap RGs. Maybe we could cut a deal

If you already have a 7v then why on Earth would you want to pay 300 for a 555 just to mod to bits ???

Just buy a beater for 50 of fle**** if you're going down that route as there's no saying you'll like it when it's scalloped or fretless.

A fretless 555 for 300 base price then at least another 200 to have a fretless vine board made and fitted.......Have you been hittin' the pipe ?

Nobody has mentioned the possible, that it's a Chibanez.

Ah yeah, but I was hoping (and assuming) that regulars here would be Chibanez-savvy by now

Buy it!
With a bit of tweaking they're great.
I've fitted a few with Edge trems and Jap posts
Needs a tiny bit of routing to the cavity to make it fit.
Get one (an Edge) on E*** for 60 or 70 and hey presto.....

Judge each guitar on its merits and not on "Its got to be a Jap snob value!"

If it is Chibanez then that's a worry.
I'd hate to see those things creep into the shops as I'd like to think it's only an auction problem at the moment.

Besides our Customs guys take a real dislike to high street shops selling fakes and are always keen to hand out hefty fines etc.

Re: New shop opened near me and it has a 555...

It's not about Jap snob value, it's about Jap guitars being more consistently better than Korean/Indonesian. That's not to say there aren't diamonds in the rough but in my opinion I've never played a bad Jap but I've played plenty of bad Koreans/Indonesians.
