Man I had to post! It's a crazy long story but I'll try and keep it brief... I've had a few Jems, 7DBK, 90HAM, VWH, then a VBK (sorry again Rich). All were awesome! I had this PRS CE24 on my wall though that I've had since '95 and I was the only owner. Everytime I'd get a Jem though I would touch the PRS, then I'd think "damn I can't have too many guitars" and I'd sell the Jem and keep he PRS for sentimental reasons (the VBK had to go for other life-curveball reasons). So the Jems would come and go and the PRS would stay and never get played.
Finally I just said F it and put the PRS on eBay...Aaaand it didn't hit the reserve. I did some shopping and there were quite a few Jems in the 14-1500 range but none that were just perfect.
I said screw it and put the PRS back on the 'bay with a much lower reserve. So while it's on eBay, the wife and I are getting ready for a holiday overnight trip to Portland. I think, ah hell I'll just check craigslist in Portland for the hell of it. Boom, 2000 7vwh. Cheap. I called the guy, we had a great conversation and met the next day!
He brought it in to a Starbucks and opened the case and I was blown away. Almost NOS condition. No corrosion on the gold but there was some minor wear from palming. Two pin size knicks in the body and a fretboard that hadn't seen action in forever and covered with gunk. The screws are still gold!
Anyhoo, after some spit, polish, steel wool and of course new strings, she is in wonderful condition. It needs a little love to the studs I think and a tweak on the truss rod but it's 95% perfect as is. The ebony/alder/Evo combination is amazing!
Long story short, the right Jem is out there, just be patient, even though that is very hard to do!
Excuse the bathroom pic, I'll grab something better later!
