NGD - 1988 Jem 7RB

Finally...

Thanks to the Jemsiters who tried to make this work. CITES proved to be particularly challenging as I had two really good international offers that we just couldn't work out due to CITES looming over us. I also had another deal lined, though not with a Jemsiter, domestic one at that, but the seller backed out.

Anyone, big thanks to Tony, Tonetheus here, for making this happen. A very cool guy and a pleasure to work with.

My Jem collection doubled yesterday... I know, big deal compared with some of the serious collectors here. But I'm really happy with this one, it's stunning, nearly flawless, and it feels exceptional. I just love the feel of a good rosewood neck.

Anyway, without further adieu... behold:

There is one little bug-a-boo I need to figure out/work out. It seems the pickgaurd was not exactly lined up the greatest. It is very close to the front edge of the trem. I can pull back pretty cleanly, without catching it, but any detuning/diving seems to catch it.

Agent540 and Tuga666 like this.

Nice aquisition!

Looks like you might need an intonation adjustment lookin at those saddles though.

Yeah, I do. I'm going to pick up one of the newer ibanez intonation tools soon. I still have to figure out what to do about the pickgaurd though, the very outside edges, at the top of the outsides of the posts, is catching the pickgaurd on detune/dives.

I tend to think you have leaning studs, and that's the problem you need to fix.

Bummer! I read through a few old threads about this topic, as well as info on your site. I'm not sure I trust my abilities to attempt that repair.

Thumbs up Re: NGD - 1988 Jem 7RB

Congrats! Finally got one. Those old PAFs are some of the best sounding pickups I've ever heard. Would have preferred they put 6105 frets on it though.

Agree with Rich - leaning studs are quite popular with old basswood RGs. Take the trem off to see if the inserts are moving around. If so, bring it to a tech to repair. I think I was quoted $70 when I was considering it once.

Thanks. It really does sound great, and it looks and feels awesome as well. I was contemplating putting some dimarzio cliplocks on it, in matching hot pink, not totally sure yet.

Yeah, problem is I don't have anyone local that I really trust with an Edge/Floyd setup. I've got two go to guys for my fixed bridge stuff, Fender American Standard/deluxe/ultra strats and Gibson SGs, but not so much on the floating trem systems. I let my guy setup my two 1989 RGs about 6 months ago, and lets just say I was not really sold on his methods.

Now if I lived a little closer to Rich, that would be a different story...

Re: NGD - 1988 Jem 7RB

Happy to sell that one to another Jemsiter. It came from Rich as part of the Debono Collection sale. It's truly a beauty for an RB, very clean, an uncommon one. Like most of the older ones it sounds like it may need a little adjusting but good to meet BluewookieJim and make that RB happen for him. It's not too light, not too dark, and hardly a mark on it. It's been well cared for.
