NGD early JEM 7RB

Well, it finally made it in one piece. Better condition than I thought it would be. Close up pics always look worse. '87 ('8 JEM 7RB Root Beer. This one is a beauty. Not too light and not too dark. Nice really dark rosewood board. Headstock is perfect. All original untouched. Not sure how dark the pickups were originally but these are not really pale and both PAFs have the 3 holes and neck looks flipped to the bridge as far as holes. Just a nice shade of pink. A couple chips on the back bottom and a ding on the front edge by the gorilla grip. Minimal fretwear. Nice JEM1000c case as well. Latches have lost a lot of luster but all work and I don't think the lock has ever been set. Still 0-0-0 and clasp works great. Nice guitar for being 30 years old. My way of celebrating the anniversary of the JEM. Got a set of NOS pink knobs and switch tip for it as well.

Nice. Totally jelly here...

These look fantastic when they have a nice medium shade like this one.

Beautiful wood grain on that Jem - love it! I would change the pink pickup covers to black - but that's just me. Beautiful guitar - congratulations!!!

I was considering the pink knobs and switch tip for mine as well. Put those babies on and let's see a pic, please.

Re: NGD early JEM 7RB

The nut sadles must be parallel to the locking nut for an '87. Congrats, great score! (Leave it "as is")

I'll get some more pics up when I get the cleaning, restring and set up done. Working on the neck first. Back of the neck was dirty. Light sand and seal first.

Grats! Easily the best looking JEM in my opinion. Classy, yet a very tiny bit punk.

I don't know why I can't see the pictures, but happy new JEM day. Not many guitars sound as good as those 80's JEMs with them PAF Pros in there.

Looks great. I was always a big fan of the RB. Underappreciated.

Re: NGD early JEM 7RB

Finally got some time to get some work done. New guard from Perle with moved volume location. Got some shielding paper from Stewmac as well. Of course 2 holes don't line up but still more comfortable to play. Got a pic of the pickup fading as well. Single cover was bright pink under the guard. Electronics look untouched. Cool to see how it was done at the factory back then. Not sure how I like the NOS pink knobs and tip. Maybe I should leave them in the window sill for awhile to fade. I will say these old PAFs are amazing. All kinds of different great tones in all 5 positions. Best pickups I have ever heard.

Those are the wrong knobs, those are the later solid pink bubble gum color.

Re: NGD early JEM 7RB

Not the painted ones, I know. I wonder if they will fade in sunlight though.

Re: NGD early JEM 7RB

That's the problem with those aftermarket guards. The screw holes line up horribly with the early guitars. What you could do is send the original to one of those places that copies them exactly and just specify no volume knob, then drill your own location.

Those solid pink bubble gum knobs are never going to fade and are never going to look right. I say just stick with the black ones, or get the painted pink ones.
