NGD: JEM77GMC

I just couldn't resist opening the case and snapping a few pictures of this beauty. Needless to say I'm floored that I finally got my hands on one of these. It was the background of my computer all throughout college. I had completely given up hope on ever having one and then out of nowhere, one was for sale. I shouldn't have spent the money, but I knew I'd be kicking myself if I let this thing pass.

It is in almost perfect shape, basically a display guitar. I'll post more pics once I have the chance to tear it down and give it a proper cleaning and setup.

What an ugly piece of firewood! Just send it to me, and I'll make sure to dispose of it properly...

What's funny is that they appear to match pretty well in natural light. Flash pictures makes them look like they don't match at all.

I'm actually wondering if Ibanez went away from the painted knobs entirely at some point. I bought a 777VBK recently (that I'm now trying to sell since I got this) and it had the same solid base knobs. My reaction was "who left the rest of the guitar alone but stole the stupid knobs?" That guitar is a '91 model year with a 90XXXX serial number.

Now with this one, I have no reason to believe that someone changed the knobs. Considering that this is the second green knob guitar I've seen like this recently, I'm beginning to think that it's an Ibanez thing.

Other than that, thanks for the compliments! The swirl is really amazing, much better than the Japanese swirl on my RG2005-1.

Very nice and good job jumping on it when you had a chance. We have all kicked ourselves for passing on an opportunity that doesn't come by very often.
The GMC has always been on my want list.
Thanks for sharing.

Ibanez switched to solid base knobs somewhere in the GMC run so some have the painted and some don't.

Re: NGD: JEM77GMC

Beautiful GMC example. The solid based green knobs are original. I have one (swirl isn't as nice as yours though!) that I bought brand new on "clearance" in 1993 from a NJ music store (when no one but us wanted swirls, thx Kurt Cobain)....cost me $999, which at the time I thought was a fortune...LOL...and mine has solid green knobs too. From what I understand the last batch in 93 before it got discontinued had them. I also have a 1991 77BFP with direct mount pickups and solid based blue knobs, right from the factory. Not sure how or when they decided to make the change but they did at some point. Enjoy the guitar, she's a beaut!
