Well, after saving my pennies, selling off a few things, and looking around and around, my waiting paid off today.
I picked up a used JS1000 for $960.00 (with the case, whammy bar and allen wrenches). The guitar was really never played, no wear anywhere. A guy had it, needed to get some cash, traded it in and I picked her up.
I was originally looking at Ibanez Jem's and Music Man Petrucci's. I wanted a versatile guitar to cover many bases so I originally narrowed my search to those two models.
The music mans are really sweet, and as much as I love the Jem's it just looks like a sore thumb on you if your not Steve Vai. In my opinion of course, don't get me wrong I would still love to own one and play it, but I don't think it will make it out of the house to a gig. Every Jem I have ever picked up has always played amazingly, same with the Music Mans.
A long time ago I played a few Satriani's, and they never did anything for me. A lot of the ones I tried were used, and the neck felt like a baseball bat to me; and the back of the neck felt pitted and not smooth.
So last night I head out to Sam Ash (NY) and check out the Jem's, and sitting right next to them is this used JS1000. It was so clean. I briefly checked it out. Went home, thought about it, did some research on it, went back today and plugged it in. It is a real smooth guitar with incredible sustain. I love it.
