NGD: JS1600!

I finally got my first JS today (thanks again Rich!) and it's freaking awesome. I wanted something a little different which is exactly what I got and I couldn't be happier!

I'll have to wait until tomorrow to play it through a real amp so I don't wake the kids.

Yeah, we should make a real club, only opened to 6/600/700/1600/2000/6000 owners ! (maybe we sould not accept 600 and 2000 because they are made of basswood )

I've got a MIJ 700 and a 1600... couldn't be happier !

Re: NGD: JS1600!

Congrats!!! I almost bought one from rich too but cant deal with the strat style bridge.

Hey OCD, how does the 2000 compare with the 1600 tone wise? Do the different bridges have an effect?

I was seriously tempted to try and put a tight-end bridge on it (if even possible) but after talking to Rich about it decided not to. I'm glad I didn't because I now know I'm perfectly fine with it as is and adding a tight-end would have just been a waste of money.

Re: NGD: JS1600!

I'm with Rich. They need to put that finish on a JS1000 or 1200.

You can't really compare because the woods are different so the sound is different

Re: NGD: JS1600!

Saw a pic where someone had done that to a JS6. Wow.

Maybe I'm on an island, I really like the feel of the gotoh fixed bridge. I had a JS700 for a while prior to owning a JS6 and could never really get used to that bridge though.

Re: NGD: JS1600!

The gotoh does feel pretty good although not quite as low and comfy as the tight-end. Realistically though, my hand isn't on it much so the difference in feel to me is minimal. As much as a love Ibanez trems (especially the Lo-Pro) I find that I almost never use them. So between not using them and being a PITA to restring, I now have two fixed-bridge Ibanez guitars for everyday playing (JS1600 and RG1421F). And if I feel like using a trem I'll play my RG-PR1 which has a Lo-Pro. Win-win

Re: NGD: JS1600!

I did something really embarrassing today... I've never owned a guitar with locking tuners and never really paid attention to how they function so for some reason I had it in my head that the "locking" part locked the tuning pegs from moving. Well, I quickly noticed that wasn't the case and before thinking about what I was doing I turned the lock nob on the high-E string and... POP! The string comes flying out and snaps my arm. It wasn't until then that I understood what the locking part does I wasn't going to post this cause it's so stupid but at the same time it was too funny not to mention :P

PS: Now that I know though, the locking/self-trimming tuners are really cool!
