NGD! And a plea for some advice...

I scored a JEM7VWH neck off a guy on some auction site, but it came attached to a body I - well, I hesitate to say 'hate' - but I'm not fond of it. I picked it up for CHEAP. Here are pics:

It's a 1993 VWH neck, complete with the ebony board and scalloped frets 21-24. Plays really great too. It's a Chris Woods custom RG560 style body (except with aanj of course, and a JEM style angled input jack) loaded with a DiMarzio X2N in the bridge and a Seymour-Duncan Dual Rail in the neck. I'm probably going to sell off the body.

Anyway, here's where I'm asking for advice: what should I do with it? I'm leaning toward just having a VWH style body built and going for the original look but I'm also considering something like maybe a flame maple top look. What would you guys do if you had a VWH neck and were going to have something custom built?

And no, I'm not swirling it. I have three of those already.

Marine sunburst flame top on mahogany body without the grip, get the headstock painted black or something to match the stain and go from there. No pickguard

Yeah, well what sort of guitar do YOU want? If you just want a VWH style, then do that. Do what ever you want, it's your guitar, what features would excite you?

I suggest heading over to the "Jem Design Contest" thread and steal someone's design--that's what the winner did.....

Actually, I kinda like the raw wood look. If you stained the body and made it a little more presentable and painted the headstock black, or left it raw, it would look sick!

This is definitely an opportunity to do something different. I wouldn't go with the tradition white Jem look. Maybe something neon

Well, I wouldn't call you guys "complete" strangers.

I've got a lot of guitars, so I was just wondering what you guys might do if you were in my shoes. I've been looking for a VWH neck for a long time; I've had plenty of ideas over the years about what I'd do if I had one, and now I've got one and can't decide. LOL

It's not going to be neon, I've got a JEM777DY, a UV777GR, and an RG750FA. My neon bases are mostly covered.

I guess I'll go play with the Virtual-RG builder...

You know what would be dirty? Making a real replica of the Jem design contest winner.

I'd get a veneer done to match the body too so it looks complete.

I really like that idea. Far too few green guitars around IMO. You could also get a matching headstock veneer.

If I had that neck, personally I'd stick it on my RG2005-1. I actually want a VWH neck just for that purpose. One thing to keep in mind when looking for new bodies is that the older necks like you have are a 56mm heel while the newer ones are a 58mm heel. So you don't want a body routed for a newer-style neck because you'd be left with a huge gap on either side of the neck.
