I'm going to get a JEM7VWH. Should I wait for the 2003 model, or go buy the current one? ie... is the new trem better? or just different?

EDIT: or should I get a PRS McCarty or Custom 24 instead? I just saw how much cheaper they are. I'm still swaying towards the JEM.

Hey. I'm also getting a 7VWH.
Jeremy told me that the one I'm getting (which is coming in end of March) will most likely be a 2003 model.
Check with your nearest dealer. Ask if they have any 2003s in stock or if there are any being shipped.
You might as well wait because if your dealer doesn't have them in yet, then they will very soon. I'm always enthusiastic about new things, especially the new trem. So I'd say, wait for the new trem. If you get your JEM now and it's a 2002 model, you might regret if the next week your dealer accounces the 2003s were in.

I really don't see the big deal about getting this new trem...yea, its new, but the Lo-Pro used to work perfect for people. So I wouldn't worry if you don't get the latest and greatest model of trem.

The only thing I'm wanting is to be able to load with the ball ends on. I know that restringing a Floyd Rose is a pain, but hopefully this new feature will cut down on the time.

Your method doesn't work with Earnie balls does it Rich? I tried once and about an inch past the ball end can't be wound around the peg.

Yea, granted. You can put the ball ends on the tuners.
But doesn't it make it look sort of... well... ugly?
Heh, I'd rather have the ball ends hidden away somewhere in the tremelo.

That would be an opinion. and IMO I like the look, I like the fact they will never slip, I like the fact I won't bleed from getting stuck, but, your mileage may vary

Just an opinion based on experience, has nothing to do with being a "pro"

I always string my MusicMan Axis with Ernie Ball Slinkies, and put the ball at the tuner. No problems.
