Opinion Wanted: What JEM's to collect?

Hi Everyone,

New here. I was hoping to get some feedback from some JEM Pros, or even just Ibanez aficionados, what would be a really neat collection of JEM's to own? My thought is to collect one each of all the anniversary editions. I think that would be a neat collection to own. Along with a Mirrored Bad Horsie. Anyone have any feedback on what a great collection of JEM's may look like?

Don't. Buy them to play.

Jem DNA for sure. I think they will fetch insane money later seeing as they have Vai's blood in them.

I'm always curious as to whether Vai's stature as a guitarist will wane over time, to the extent that the DNA guitars will lose value compared to their current premium offer the other swirls?

That said, a good DNA seems lie a fun choice in the meantime

Who knows what his stature will do, but his marketability will skyrocket after he...........well........dies.

The blood laden DNA will skyrocket right alongside.

I think so? I mean he pretty much made Ibanez along with Satch?

Personally I wouldn't buy guitars as investments, but I don't feel like a DNAs a bad idea at all.

Ibanez was doing fine before Vai came along. He built modern Ibanez, not then entire brand.

He played a BIG role in Ibanez becoming mainstream. Before that it was just Jazz boxes, Icemen, and Destroyers that anybody knew about.

Oh I know that. I'm just saying that while not mainstream, Ibanez was still selling guitars and being profitable. Adrian Smiths destroyer in the running to the hills video is still famous today so it's not only Vai that built Ibanez up. Vai changed the landscape of guitar production, irrelevant of whether it was Ibanez or not, so I tend to think of Vai as more than just the face of Ibanez.

I'm not so sure on that because a lot of kids don't really 'get' Vai anymore, he's not at the height of his fame like he was when PAW was released. His work has become less guitar-centric in recent times and so on (although his next rumoured release may change that).

I can see Vai living long and prospering, to the extent where his marketability will be to guys (like I hope to be) who are so old, deaf and cantankerous that they haven't got time to play guitar, they're too busy yelling at clouds...

I dunno man, this talk of death is hard for me right now. Super bowl Sunday Jason Becker had a life-threatening scare and it's hard to think about this kinda stuff right now...

Re: Opinion Wanted: What JEM's to collect?

I'll vote for a floral Jem from one of the early years, with an original floyd rose. I got mine second hand from the 'bay and it's a little road worn but man, those things just have some kind of mojo. Maybe it was because it was my first Jem? Anyway, happy collecting to you... and yeah, make sure you PLAY them!

Re: Opinion Wanted: What JEM's to collect?

If steve did pass on it would feel almost like a family member had.

That's what people felt when SRV and LP passed

It would en such a loss of music as well... I like to think he's got more "for the love of gods" in there
