Original Universe MKR re-swirled

All, few opinions needed on this please..

You have a MKR '91 universe in superb shape (not even neck pocket cracks) but you dislike the Japanese impression of swirling. If you decided to have it re-swirled by one of the masters, Alan at OOTS, would it lose value in the Universe market?

Cheers

I would think it would de-value it. You should keep the original MKR body and order another from OOTS, put the neck and goodies on the new body and play it like crazy!

Re: Original Universe MKR re-swirled

Even with an MKR..You will kill it by re-swirling. Just get a second 7 and either build one from a body from OOTS or ET.

Leave the MKR alone. Especially since it's in such good conditon.

Re: Original Universe MKR re-swirled

i 100% absolutely agree with these guys, get another body, and just hold on to the mkr. that way if one day you ddeecide to sell when the market is ripe for mkr's (im sure it will happen eventually) then all you gotta do is out the origonal body back on and shabam back to all origonal! also a plus becuase you then dont have to worry about the mkr body getting dinged or anything of that nature!

Re: Original Universe MKR re-swirled

The market has never been "ripe" for MKR's and i think it will never happen. The general concensus is that MKR swirls are inferiour to ATD swirls.
Still, it's nice to have an original. I would keep the originsl body too.

Re: Original Universe MKR re-swirled

MKR's have always been worth less, but they have really taken a hit with the UVMC-RE's out. Those seem to be the most valuable at the moment.

With the ease of getting your hands on a second RG7 body, the answer seems pretty obvious. While the MKR may be worth little when comparing to other UVMC's, it's still worth a lot when compared with other Ibanez guitars. I think people would be shocked at the idea of repainting a Jem that had the value of an MKR.

Re: Original Universe MKR re-swirled

I don't know if I would say that all MKRs are inferior to ATDs. I happen to own an MKR and believe that it actually has a superior swirl to a number of ATDs that I have seen.

Re: Original Universe MKR re-swirled

I change my mind, and agree with wolfram,
To say that the market will never be ripe for mkr's is crap, I'm sure it will be someday. And when that day comes I'm sure you'll be happy that you kept the body original. I've spoken to many people who either have no preference between mkr's and atd's as well as people who prefer mkr's to atd's.
I'd love to own either honestly....

That is an AANJ, his MKR would have a square heel.

Ahhhhh ok.

But same idea. Get a new body done up, and keep the MKR to the side.
