Pearly? - Pearly Gates?

Hey guys.

*Upon further inspection of the Live in San Fran DVD Ive come to realize that all of the tones Joe is getting that i just LOVE are coming from pearly.......

I was thinking.... Maby i should try it out. But just for conformation. Which pickups does Joe have in that guitar? I HATE the idea of turning over to Duncans but I just cant get over how sweet the tone on untill we say goodbye is. And i dont think any of his other guitars he's playing with Dimarzios have as sweet of a tone as that.

I was gonna go buy a Jem to go along with my JS1000 but now i think i might change the PU's to duncans in my JS that i have now and pick up another one later and keep the Dim's.

I am also seriously concidering changing my setup completely. I have a Legacy half stack and If changeing the tubes to EL34's *or is that what it comes stock with? *LOL* * doesnt work then I want to sell it and try and find something i can get more of a Satriani Tone out of. After a few months of setteling for half as good tones as i want, Im just rediscovering my dream tone.

anyway, rambaling mode OFF.

Pearly?

Yep, it's Pearly Gates, if that's what you're asking. *And don't worry, I know a lot of people on here that use Duncans, especially in their 7-strings. *

Pearly?

Don't expect any JS to sound like Pearly with the swap. The p/u were changed in that guitar because he had alot of problems getting good tone out of that particular JS2. The Gates did the trick, but doesn't mean another guitar will sound the same with them.

Rich, If i dont like the PU's..... Im out a couple hundred dollars with a nice set of pickups I can use on another guitar if i want! Im not worried too much. If i like how they sound, they will stay. If i dont then they will find another home! Ill always have my old Dim's to go back to.

Just making sure you're not too disapointed if you don't get the same tone

Pearly?

remember the pu's are a small (yet important) part of a big sound chain, which doesn't end in the amp, but mics, soundboard and recording media.

Pearly?

The Chromeboy with the Pearly gates in it is also not that acrylic stuff that they later used during the chroming process. It is a protype, one of the first 3 that ibanez chromed and it has a basswood body so you should take into considerationg that that could also be the reason that the duncan equipped chromeboy has a sweeter tone(at least to my ears any way ) i based this on a comparison between the Pearly equipped chromeboy and the snake which has dimarsios but sounds almost exactly the same

any ways i could be wrong about this its just my 2 cents

Guitarforceone, if my mind don't fail i think that Ibanez make 12 or a little more JS2 or "Original Chromeboy" if do you prefer.

Does SD make a 7-string pearly gates? I thought they didn't, but I might be wrong.

I think Joe got the prototypes then a few "production" JS2s were made after Joe stated they were available in an interview or something similar. Pearly I think is one of the original handful made specifically for Joe.

12 is the "official" factory # (and not an unfamiliar # no?) 8 prototypes and 4 production models. There is also another 12 (estimated by JD) that slipped out of the US distributors that were also involved in trying to produce chromes with a stable finish.
