Pickguard suggestions on a JS10th

I have seen on Joe's JS10th that he has a "kidney" shape clear material where he rests his hand, I noticed this on the G3 video. I am considering doing something similar to mine to minimize the wear that occurs on an unprotected finish due to normal use.

I am thinking along the lines of thin clear vinyl that would be affixed by static cling, I would imagine any kind of adhesive would ruin the finish.

Has anyone here done something similar? I would be curious to hear of any alternatives and suggestions.

Thanks to all.

Joes is actually glued on but it's to keep the chrome from peeling off there where it has before (a few times, his is wood bodied remember). You're on the right track, I recomended the clear static cling vinyl with every Chromeboy I sold. You can find it at most decent craft shops to use for window decorations.

I used the clear plastic that is used to cover packaged xlr cables and stuff like that. I just cut out a half circle that would cover the picking area of the guitar(where you would normally leave marks on the finish)....but i hold it in place by cutting the piece large enough so that it slips under the outer edge of both pickup bezels. You gotta unscrew the screws on the pickup bezels in order to slip the plastic under....then tighten for a nice fit. Be careful not to scratch the chrome in the process though. This works great for me, it even looks like Joe's clear tape....but more importantly, it protects the finish from scratches which is what you're really after.
