Probably a Stupid Question - Inlays on Jem and UV

This is probably an example of how I should not believe everything I read, but are the inlays on the Jem and UV plastic? On Harmony Central I have read some reviews and one was by this guy who did not like his Jem and said the inlays were plastic. So if anyone knows for sure of what the inlays are made of I would really like to know. Thank You
