PU height on EVO and FLO

I noticed the dramatic difference in the BRIDGE pickup height between the two guitars and I was wondering what might be the reason. *The bridge pickup on FLO is HIGH and the bridge pickup on Evo is very low. *The trems on the two guitars appear to be the same height. *Does the sustainer play a factor? *Does one have direct mounted pickups and the not? *Is Evo still a Floral painted over? *

I think this has something to do with the height of the neck also. The neckjoint on Flo is an old type converted to a new type, I think the neck sits a bit higher in the pocket. As a result the bridge and the pickup should be higher too.

both FLO and EVO are VWHs nowadays

this could be a result of the neck angle but you said the trem is setup the same/similar on both axes. The next idea would be to simply adjust the pickup height to balance volume betwen neck/bridge... glen

AFAIK Evo was allways a VWH, since birth.

Doesn't Flo use a 'The Breed' pu in the bridge position?

(It's time for an actual name and head-count at Vai's vault, by the way. I'm totally lost between all the Flo's en Evo's (I, II and III), original and 'next generation' editions...

I thought about the neck position but I can't tell if one is higher (the trems appear to be the same height on both guitars). *The only thing I can think of is what Glen stated to balance out the volume of the neck pickup (the sustainer) and the bridge. *The sustainer must have one hell of an output.
