PUs on 'Musterion'?

I'm a bit of a convert to satriani's music. Years ago I listened to 'Surfing with the Alien' and it wasn't really my thing. However I recently got 'Professor Suchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock' and it is a work of sheer genius in my opinion!

Anyone know what PUs Joe was using by this period? I love the sound!

Re: PUs on 'Musterion'?

Well I asked him that at the Satchafunkilus Tour and according to him most songs were played on his standard JS1200 (PAF Joe/Fred), his Blackdog and a white JS with PAFJoe/Mo'Joe setup. I hope I remember that correctly, so no guarantee...

You can replicate most sounds from that album with a standard JS1200.

For Professor Satchafunkilus, he used a JS1200 and JS1000, so PAF Joe, Mo'Joe, PAF Pro and FRED.

Wow. ummm.... I think probably 90%+ of Satch fans would say the exact opposite.

I like a "few" of the tracks on PSatMoR, but as a whole that album is near the bottom of the list for me, personally.

Not to mention: Worst... album.... title..... evar.

To each their own...I thought it was a great album but it's eclectic nature could be a turn off for some or lead to only liking one or two songs.

Maybe I'm just young (29) but I think his best albums are Crystal Planet and Super Colossal. I like the songs on surfing with the alien more when I hear them now live but it's very 80s for me and I think the guitar sounds sucks as it's pre JSs.

It must be the youth because I'm 28 and totally agree about the old school songs being better live than the original recorded versions...

Re: PUs on 'Musterion'?

Joe has a very intuitive way of playing his songs live. He strives to play most of his songs sound in such a way that he incorporates the environment he's playing in (arena, club, etc.), so that things like feedback and acoustics blend together with the music to make the song pretty much come alive.
