Question about 1990 77FP

Hi, all! New to the forum after a long time lurking. Great to be here!

Anyway, I'm looking at buying a 1990 77FP, but I note that it has a LoPro Edge on it. It's my understanding that the LoPro wasn't on the 77FP until 1991.

The seller insists that the guitar is original, and the serial number is clearly a 1990.

I'm wondering if maybe late model 1990 77FPs had LoPros on them?

Thanks much!

Re: Question about 1990 77FP

Thanks for the reply!

Are you reasonably sure about that? The serial number of the one I'm looking at is 904834. I've looked at some others online. The highest serial number I've found online is 904262, and it has an Edge rather than a LoPro.

With only a 572 difference in serial numbers, I thought that was cutting it awfully close.

I just hate to spend a lot of money on a guitar that's been modified. :/

An early built 1991 model would have a F90xxxx serial number. I don't know what to tell you if you know of another floral with a higher build number that happens to have an edge. It's just as likely that the edge was swapped in as a replacement for a lopro on that other guitar just as much as it could be the lopro on the one you're looking at was swapped in for an edge. it could also just be a transitional thing..who knows how consistent ibanez was towards the end of 1990 as far as parts they had around during assembly.

Either way if the guitar is otherwise nice and you like it I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. You could easily find an original edge from that era and put it on the guitar if you chose to. It's not like the bridges were date coded or had a serial number or anything. so as long as you had the correct part on there from that era you would essentially be putting it back to original

This. Ibanez still do it these days, I have a 2009 RG3570 with an F08 serial.

There are transitional models where the specs don't always line up. The plates were just grabbed at random and nobody was looking at a plate saying "that's a 90' plate, we can't put a lo pro on that". They were just building guitars.

As I'm reading this, all I'm thinking is where's Rich?

And then there you go...
