Question about Jem7vwhs pickguard

The pickguard from the 7V just "guards" the pickups or its like a Strato (the one you remove and its possible to see everything inside) ?

thanks

Yes, if you remove the pickguard, all the electronics are assebled to it like a Strat ;-)

Red Dragon - First of all loved the movie...

The pickups, tone and volume knobs, and the pickup selector are all mounted to that "mother of pearl / sister of toilet seat / bastard son of countertop" pickguard - providing us with that tone that really clears the sinuses. Believe me, if the pickups were mounted on to wood, the tone would suffer irreparable damage.

You know, come to think of it... I have not owned a guitar that has had the pickups connected directly to the wood. I've been through Strats, Les Pauls, Ibanez RG, and now an Ibanez Jem - all have had pu's mounted to pickguard, or to plastic sorrounding the p/u - not wood. Is there an off-the-shelf guitar that has truly direct-to-wood mounted p/u's?

Peavey Wolfgang, ibanez rg 3120 *lots of prestiges in fact*, almost all the ibanez seven strings. Personally I think it is an improvement but others would disagree. All in all, it does look sexier. but some even prefer them more with them mounted to the guard. Who cares. Its all apples and oranges but any customs I built would have direct mounts

I don't know of any Ibanez that mounts direct to wood, I don't consider the foam pad they sit on a direct contact mount.

Correct me if I am wrong but, in theory, tone wood should be allowed to vibrate (sympathetically) to the input from a vibrating string - via a set or floating trem... and then picked up from the string's point of view - not from the wood. Think of a fine violin - stradivarii or otherwise - who would attach a pickup to the body of such an instrument??? The point is that the pickup is not, per se, connected to the wood. But what do I know? I'm interested in hearing a direct to wood mounted pickup.

OK, OK, but wait...

I know that; what I want to know is :

the pickguard just holds the kbos, selector key and pickup,

OR it "closes" the body, like a Strato ?

In other words, if I remove the 7Vs pickguard, what will I see ?

Will I see the inside of the guitar, or not ?

Because I noticed Jems like the DNA which use the pickup just to hold those parts......

The clear guard on a DNA does nothing but protect the finish against scratches, the pickups are direct mount. Same with the GMC, PMC, last run BFP's, and post 92' FP's. A solid color guard typically is covering up the routs underneath for the controls and wiring, that would be front routed. A rear routed guitar doesn't need a solid color guard [or any guard at all] since no routs are visible from the front. The controls are mounted straight to the body, as are the pickups [in most cases].

Well you are right in some regards there, but remember the screws are stil bolted on the wood, allowing them vibrate the base plate. Ill admit it would be better for them to sit against the body (the baseplate that is), but thats rahter difficult to do I assume
