Question guys (an gals) - Strings on UV...again

I know this was asked before, but I can't find the thread on this topic so here it goes:

I just got my first UV and it needs to be set-up real bad. I love using .10-.52 gauge strings. What is the gauge of string that I should use on my low-B?

Thanx a millon

Hey, you're a Donnie head!

I'd go 62, the question is 4 springs or 5?

Question guys (an gals)

the standdard d'addario 7 string .010 set has a .056 for the low B

sinc eyou're using heavy bottoms, you can go a little thicker than that, but I was told by a guitar tech that once you get past a certain point, you start going in to bass strings, which are a little harder to come by and are more expensive, yada yada yada.

d'add set is 10, 13, 17, 26, 36, 46, 56.

Hope this helps

Thanx for the responses guys.

Rich , when you say 4 or 5 springs, are you reffering to the three behind the back plate keeping tension on the floyd? In that case, right now I have three. What kind of difference would a fourth or fifth spring achieve?

I really want the tone of .10-.52 so I will try a .62.

Or should I simply stay with the standard .10-.46 7 string set, and avoid any potential problems?

BTW, what is a donnie head?

You use 3 springs with a 10-52 on a 6 string? Your claw must be screwed all the way in! You should need at least 4 springs using a 10-62 on a 7 string.

Your avatar is a Donnie head.

I'm using the D'addario XL110 7 string set and am very pleased.

It's 10-56.

I used to use 10-52 and a 62 for B on my 7420 and I had 5 springs in the back.:loco:
Right now though, I'm using 9-42 and a 52 for B and 3 springs on both my 7420 and Universe. I just like the feel of 9-42's. As far as a difference in tone, I didn't notice much of a change. Not considering how much nicer they play now.
