Re: is this a real univers guitar?

It Looks like an RG to me. Why would anyone buy a Universe and then strip it to make it look like an RG? Why not just buy an RG

Re: is this a real univers guitar?

What's the serial number on the neck plate?

It seems like it'd make more sense if it was a 97 uv7bk because then he'd just have to paint the headstock black and get an all black pickguard with no middle single coil hole.
Does it look like the dot inlays are on there real cheaply or you can see green at all around any of them?
The things some people do to their nice guitars, I will never understand!

holy crap, that "thing" is fugly. Nobody's brought up the point that the middle pickup is missing.

I hope you didn't pay for that $100 for that.

Re: is this a real univers guitar?

I thought it was a '97 (all black) UV7BK when I saw it, he says the pickups and fret markers were green though, so from what I can make of it, he took a UV7BK (pre '97) and customized it.....

I don't think it's that bad. She sure ain't a beauty but if that's indeed a UV under all that black paint then it's probably a sweet playing and souding axe you got.

that would make it a 1992 model year. I would say put a nice metal pickguard on it, blue hum-sing-hums (blaze II or TZ7 or Paf7 etc. if those are not the original Pups) and have some blue LEDs installed as fretmarkers. It's already been modded, so why not go all the way?

Yes.
It's a 1997 UV7BK

http://www.jemsite.com/jem/model/uv7bk2.htm

with a custom pickguard and the previous owner had either refinished it or more probable just scratched off the Ibanez Universe decal off he headstock for some reason.
These decals come off pretty easy as there's no clear on them.
