Really stupid question on pronounciation

I never thought about it before, but what is the correct pronounciation for JEM? Is it J-E-M, or is it said like "gem"? I always called it J-E-M.

This has been discussed previously in multiple topics. "JEM" doesn't MEAN anything. It's simply the name that Steve chose, which goes back to some of the custom guitars that Joe Despagni had been building for him in the early 80's.

That's OK. I once asked a guy in a guitar store about the Epiphany line of Gibson guitars. Duh, it's Epi-phone like a tele-phone!

Reminds me of that Star Trek movie where Spock explains to someone that Kirk took too much LDS in the 60's

I have an uncle who sadly CHANGED HIS NAME to Steve Vai. Let's just say that he was "a few sandwiches short of a picnic". He's changed his name back now, but during this "phase" he got married. He is an odd person anyway i.e. Before he changed his name, so there was always going to be some comedic value to be gained from the experience. Me, my girl & brother had had some herbal refreshment before the event. We were fine until those words were said. They were in the post, then they came - "Do you Steve vai take etc" and that was it. I burst out laughing, swiftly to be followed by an elbow in the ribs from my mum and numerous pokes in the back. All 3 of us were bursting at the seems and eventually our family were creasing up.

Nutter.

A little FYI:
"pronounce" is a word.

"Pronounciation" is not! Check the dictionary.

I believe you mean "pronunciation," which is pronounced as it is written, "pro-nun-ciation."

Since we are splitting hairs about language, this would be appropriate.

As for the JEM's, it's like glen said: "gem."

Yeah, I've heard that one from my local guitar shop. And no matter how many times you tell him V-A-I, he still pronounces it V-E-Y.
