Red JEM? Is this a Fake!?!?

I recently saw a Blood Red "JEM" for sale a local music "store". It was brand new, had a maple neck w/red vine inlay, monkey grip, claw, pickup covers(no ****), and (get this) a red painted neck! Price tag was $399. Now, maybe I missed something but I was thinking that this thing is some kind of black market ripoff. If it is, it looked pretty cool and accurate, but I did not get a chance to play it. If anyone can help me out....?

Definately ask the model # too. Where are you from anyway? [adding a little information to your profile couldn't hurt ]

no, it wasn't pink. and the pickup covers were black and knobs were black "speed" knobs. Ibanez and Jem on the headstock was in white too... very strange.

A little more info about the "store" I saw it in. It was at a well-known local Flea Market. The guy had a lot of cheap instruments and that was the reason that I thought this might be some kind of fake. Maybe the guy will freak out when i take pics of this thing.. hahah

Sounds like a truly bizarre mongrel... maple neck (and i assume fretboard, too?) with a red vine? Red painted neck with the old-style heel? Must be something in the water down there in Houston.

Even if it was a fake I would buy it for $399 if it looked and played decent.

Hell, you could at least fool Ed Roman and SELL it to him for at least $500

One of my old guitar buddies said one of his friends had almost the same thing and i was like it cant be. He said it just sat in a stand and no one played it cause it sucked, but I guess Id still like to have one just for kicks. I saw a generic wannajem the other day myself. Obviously made overseas, it had a floyd that looked like a floyd 2 with no writing on it, generic powersound like pickups, no pickguard, 2 hums and a single, blue finish, and jackson style headstock, with monkey grip. No inlays or nutting just a pos.

I am thinking that this has originated from overseas...The storeowner had a lot of Asian products in the store as well and he was Asian himself (not to stereotype, just trying to connect dots). He actually had 2 of them in stock.
