Replaced the FRED in my JS1600 last night with a D-Sonic!

So, I love my JS1600 and since it's not rare or crazy expensive I decided to have a little fun with it. The PAF Pro works well for me as a neck pickup but the FRED wasn't really doing it for me. I originally was going to try a Mo-Joe but ended up picking up a D-Sonic from another Jemsite member on a whim. I had an adventure putting it in (which I'll post about in the pickup forum) but it turned out great in the end. It was late by the time I finished but I was able to get some cool sounds out of it before having a pillow thrown at my head by my wife who was trying to sleep *evilgrin*. I found it amusing the amount of heavy chugga-chugga I was getting out of a JS! Hopefully I'll get some real play time in tonight so I can explore what it's capable of.

Anyway, I thought some of you might find it an "interesting" pickup to put into a JS

It was pretty cool. I was able to pull of heavier rhythms and still get a nice lead sound. Got bored with it though and installed an EMG81/85 set last night and it really rips!

Agreed! I don't know why they get crapped on here so much. Depending on what I'm playing they're really nice. Oddly enough my first exposure to EMG's was my dad in the early 90's. He has a Rickenbacker 330 with a 81/85 set in it. Talk about an odd but cool combination! He gets a lot of odd looks followed by compliments at gigs. It's all about the volume control.
