Rescued Jem - Pics

I bought this Jem in a shop about 3 years ago. It had been re-sprayed on the back with dodgy black houshold paint. I picked it up very cheap $500.00 AUD ($300 US odd I think) there isn't anything wrong with it at all as far as sound goes. I use it as my every day player. As far as I can tell it is a one off. I would love to know if anybody has done something similar to a Jem. All parts are original apart from me sanding off the black paint. What do you guys think? Should I have left it as a beat up Jem in black?
I love this guitar more than anything, it is my most prized item and to me it is irreplacable now. Even if Steve Vai himself offered me EVO, I wouldn't swap it.

How the heck did you scrape that out of their hands for $300 quid?

All my local stores would ignorantly grab hold of the "ITS A JEM!" thing and run with it, treating it like gold, regardless of condition.

I love the green pickups. I assume it was a JEM77VBK?

No....it's like BUTTAH'

Kinda reminds me of Neville with the "non-finish" finish. The green pups set it off. Leave it be!

Re: Rescued Jem - Pics

if you ever want to sell it you could always have it respayed in black but I would say leave it how it is now.

Leave as it is - it looks great - reminds me of Nuno Bettencourt's guitar only better.

Re: Rescued Jem - Pics

I think it looks cool but if you refinished it black to look like the original, that would be cool too. A stain would be nice too I guess.

Nice guitar and good deal.

I rescued a poor JEM777DY that had been sanded and resprayed 5 times. I had it swirled. Looks like this!

Re: Rescued Jem - Pics

I think judging from the comments thus far I will keep it as is. I don't ever intend selling it as I t really has grown to be my favourite guitar.

It did start out (and I suppose it still is a JEM77VBK). Maybe I should rename it to a JEM77VBW - BW for bare wood).

I told the guy in the shop that whoever painted the guitar devalued it hence why I made a ridiculous offer. The best part is he took it!

The serial number is # 917858 so I assume it is from 91.

Nice guitar man!

I've seen some really mongreled jems here in Singapore, an FP with black pups and gold trem, a VBK with skateboard griptape pasted all over the body, and a GMC painted green.

Thanks. That was intentional. The poor thing had been sanded so many times, that the body has actually shrunk some(look at how the pick guard fits around the bottom horn).

As for the VBK Wolfram, I wouldn't change a thing on that. It is very nice as it is! You were lucky to have nice wood underneath, without lots of knots and imperfections.(As far as I can see in the pix!) Great job!
