Reviews of Jem7DBK - Looking for opinions before I take the

Hey guys. *I'm likely going to be pickup up a Jem7DBK later in the week. *Before I close the deal, I'd like to get some opinions on it. *I've played one before, but you know how it is . . . you can't really form a list of likes and dislikes without spending a couple weeks with an axe.

So go ahead and hit me with your likes and dislikes of the DBK. *

My first impression - it's a solid instrument for the money. *My concern - I see A LOT of them available in the used market. *Why do people turn over so many of these? *Looks aside, how does it stack up to some of the older Jems? *Thanks gang

I think there's a lot of turn-over for a few reasons.

A. *They're the cheapest ones. * By virtue of NOT having any mother of pearl, gold hardware, ebony or alder or special anniversary value, these JEMs are about as cheap as they've ever been.

B. *The look. *For whatever reason, some people buy one thinking they'll get used to it and they don't. *Some people just DO NOT like the finish or the inlays.

C. *They are currently in production so statistically there's more of them being bought each day then there are of say the JEM7PBK which hasn't been produced in years. *Since it is easy to find them new, folks are more likely to put theirs up for sale, figuring if they really want one they can always buy another.

In terms of workmanship, the DBK is everything you'd expect from a JEM. *However, they differ from JEMs of yesteryear in a few ways.
- the neck profile has been slimmed considerably since the JEM7VWH and JEM7BSB. *It's tough to even compare to a JEM777LNG.
- the Breed pickups are fair amount thinner than the ultra-high output EVOs and more middy than PAF Pros.

I picked up a Jem 7DBK about a month ago, and here are my feelings on it.

I like the look a lot. *A lot of people compain about the inlay not being the classic Jem vine, but when it comes down to it, the screw heads fit the style of the DBK and are a cool look. *The guitar also sounds great, and I like the breed pickups. *They have more mids and allow for a smooth, full, balanced tone that can go either metal, or classic. *The fretboard is as smooth as a babys behind and plays nicely. *The only thing I was leery on at first was the neck. *It is the wizard profile which is thinner than latter year Jems, but comfortable to play. *It just takes a little getting used to if You're not accustomed to thin necks (which I wasn't). *

Bottom line - The Jem 7DBK is a quality Jem that sounds, looks and plays great (and it wont render you pennyless) IMO

The DBK is a great guitar. Im in a jazz band at school and can get amazing tones with it. Just turn the volume, tone to 5-7 and play through the neck pickup. Im even playing through a cheap Fender 25R amp and the sound is still rad. I play many different styles of music vai, dream theater, pat metheny, al di meola, and i can achieve those specific tones with the DBK. The finish is very kool, I personally love it. Its light weight, thin neck and kickass sound make it a dream guitar for me. Buy it used. *:donnie:

i know this is a late reply, but the DBK is the best jem deal ever. *Although its not nearly as good of a deal as an RG5xx, if you want a Jem, there is no substitute for this deal.

BUY IT

i saw it for the first time in a guitarshop and just fell in love with it. *it's so light-weight! *i love the breeds! *very evenly-balanced. *i can get from tight punchy metal to cool jazz or really nice clean! *the trem is great as with most jems and i love the neck...very thin, unlike the tree trunk necks of early jems. *this neck is really really thin!....a tad thicker than the jem7vdy. *highly recommended. *it's up to you ultimately. *i tried the jem7vwh many times in the store and it never stuck on me. *i hate the clashy white with gold hardware and the neck is too thick for me. *the guitar just doesnt' feel like it's part of me. *i'm not knocking it; i'm sure it's great; just not for me. *i love the 7dbk and it's cheaper. *good luck.

I own both a 7DBK and a 7VWH and the 7DBK gets a lot more play time...

...but the 7VWH looks much prettier hanging on the wall
