Satch Pickups

Why do you think this year's JS line still uses the Fred when Satch came out with the Mo Joe?

Re: Satch Pickups

Probably the same reason that no production Jem is fitted with the Evo2, as far as I'm aware.

Re: Satch Pickups

i don't think mo joe and paf joe were created to completely replace the fred/paf pro for joe. it's more like an option. i remember seeing on the san fran dvd, joe had a chromeboy with seymour duncans in it that he used for certain songs. that guitar had a fuller sound to it, and i would guess was the impetus for the creation of the new pickups.

Re: Satch Pickups

sorry for offtopic...
I want to buy two dimarizos (HH) for a JS project.
sure that the bridge humbucker is F-Spaced.
but.... and the neck humbucker??? is it F-Spaced too??

smooth55...
why do you say that Satch uses Mo Joe?

I am looking for the Satch tone... then, what pickup I must buy for bridge position? Mo Joe or Fred??

thanks

Re: Satch Pickups

The neck pickup on Ibanez JS guitars is NOT F-spaced, only the bridge pickup. Satch mainly uses the Fred in the bridge position.

Re: Satch Pickups

Joe supposedly uses the mojo on all his guitars now...he feels its a better match to the paf joe than the fred..problem is ibanez never incorperated them into the 1200 or 1000....maybe this year?...or maybe dimarzio is enjoying all us satch fans are buying them up

Re: Satch Pickups

I thought the spacing was relative to the string spacing, which I would think is uniform. Can you explain why this is different in the neck? (I may have put the wrong kind in one model)

Re: Satch Pickups

f spaced is floyd rose spaced which is a little wider than standard spaced...you only need fspaced pickup in the bridge position for pups...mind you it still works if you use the wrong spacing...just looks weird when the strings dont line up w./ the poles

Re: Satch Pickups

Both pickups in a JS are F spaced, always have been.

Joe has converted all his stage guitars to Mo and Joe, not all his guitars, the way I understood him.

Re: Satch Pickups

to clarify...when i said all his guitars..i meant stage.... i was refering to the js-100, the only guitar i changed pups..which i used f spaced only in the bridge and it looked close enough....hmmm seems i got some bad info when i changed pups...i think f spaced on both pups align better........i never notice there both are f-spaced on the 1200...thanks rich...though you cant hear any differnce...its more about looks

Sorry but you are wrong, from the Dimarzio website "F-spaced pickups measure 2.01" (51 mm) center-to-center from the first polepiece to the sixth. Standard-spaced pickups measure 1.90" (48 mm)" I just measured my JS1200 and its 48.04mm (centre to centre on the neck pickup) with a high quality Mitutoyo digital vernier. My JS1000 is the same.

Re: Satch Pickups

And I just measured a 1000 and they're both F spaced, as are all my old JS's, as they've always been. If you got a non F it was a mistake.

Re: Satch Pickups

the real question is does is align with the string perfectly...my 1200 is the only one that does...but its clear that the nut spacing is smaller than the floyd spacing...i think the bridge pup type is a matter of prefference and design....doesnt effect tone whatsoever...and thats all that matters...but i sure would like to be sure for my next project

Re: Satch Pickups

Well this is the 3rd JS1200 I've owned and theyve all has non F spaced at the neck, infact the reason I know this is because like an idiot I bought an F spaced Paf Jo for the neck on my old JS1000 and the string alighment was off by a fair bit compared to the JS1200.

"the real question is does is align with the string perfectly...my 1200 is the only one that does" a non-F spaced WILL align perfects due to the 42mm nut, smaller spring spacing etc.
