Shipping a guitar, gound or air? - What's best

I am having a UV shipped from CA to IL and I was wondering wether it would be better to send it Air (3-day) or ground. If it goes air would it be subjected to frigid temperatures when it's 20,000 feet up? Ground takes longer, but it seems as if it would be safer.

I have a theory:
The more people that touch your package, or time they have your package in their possession, the more likely damage is to take place.

I use USPS Priority (or Express) on 99% of the gear I ship. *
Yes- even 90 lb. combo amps.

Just like FedEx and UPS, but different colors.
Plus, they offer free supplies, and they'll pick up from your house!

P.S.- What "air" service takes three days? *
Even the pro damagers at UPS don't take 3 days to air a package.

Overnight is overnight and overnight isn't cheap. In the case of a UV unless it's an expensive MC what's the point? The weather isn't going to affect it and if it's in a UV1000c the damge that could be inflicted is pretty minor. Ground. UPS will run you $25, overnight $85, 2nd day $65. USPS a hair cheaper as long as the insurance isn't high (the great equalizer)

I generally feel (no matter what Kev says) is that UPS is the way to go. I get plenty of guitars shipped in Postal and my "letter carrier" is none too pleased he's lugging these things around!! You have to believe that "distain" carries across the board as the counter folks don't like recieving them either! They know it's their *job*, but doesn't make them happy campers.

The UPS guys are just happy they can lift the package easy!!! They are used to and *expected* to haul the nations larger shipments and do it gladly and willingly. I believe this makes a big difference in the way your package gets *handled*.

Bottom line, any carrier can damage a package.

Please tell me you're joking about that.

Isn't it odd that you only hear UPS horror stories? *
Hmmm....

If it makes you feel any better Rich, my postal guy is a PR!CK and hates bringing me the big boxes too. *
But like my mom always says, "Tough!"
